🇮🇪 Speaking on Sky News tonight about a United Ireland. No matter who is No.10 Downing Street they cannot deny Irish Unity referendums or block the right of the people of Ireland to decide our own future.  We will work enthusiastically with Plaid Cymru and the SNP to build a future beyond the Union - national independence, self- determination and progress.

‘‘We’re witnessing, again, the kind of chaos we experienced throughout the whole Brexit process, and I think it’s little wonder now that people are looking increasingly towards a new constitutional arrangement, where decisions affecting Ireland are taken in Ireland.” @moneillsf

Writing in The Irish News, @moneillsf says: "We are living through a time of extraordinary change. "We will have: a pro-independence First Minister here in the North of Ireland, a pro-independence First Minister in Scotland and a pro-independence First Minister in Wales. "The demand for independence is growing. The Union is cracking at the seams. This moment has been coming. "The failings of Westminster and every British Government have been laid bare." I have contacted SNP leader John Swinney and Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth to congratulate them on their enormous mandates. For the first time ever, there could be three pro-independence First Ministers across these islands. More and more people are looking towards a future beyond the constraints of the Union. I look forward to continuing to build the friendship between the people of our nations, and to working closely with both John and Rhun in the time ahead.

"If you look at an island of 7M ppl on the edge of Europe, it makes absolutely no sense that you have 2 of everything. You've 2 health services, you've 2 transport systems, you've 2 economic development agencies competing against each other. It's illogical" - @mattcarthy

Great to meet members of @IrelandsFuture board today. Much to discuss on Irish unity efforts, including the Amarach poll findings commissioned by the European Movement Ireland, that shows overwhelming support North & South for a united Ireland within the EU.

⁉️💥WATCH: Mary Lou McDonald on Irish unity: ‘Dublin and London burying their heads in the sand’ when it comes to a united Ireland. 🎤@sinnfeinireland President @MaryLouMcDonald tells Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 that anyone dismissing the 'momentum on Irish unity couldn’t be more wrong.' 🗣Vice President of the party and First Minister @moneillsf said election results in Scotland and Wales “will be very telling”, adding: “I think it’s an opportunity for people to reject the fact that Westminster has failed people here, whether it’s in Scotland or Wales.” Mary Lou McDonald says young people will be “let down” if there is no planning, with the Irish Government responsible for setting the pace. Secretary of State Hilary Benn previously said that a border poll was still some way off in the distance.

🚨🤝WATCH: Taoiseach Micheál Martin arrives at Stormont. Met by Speaker @edwinpootsmla. Micheál Martin has vowed to continue working towards reconciliation and mutual trust ahead of his visit to Belfast. The Taoiseach will meet political leaders at Stormont, as well as business leaders, and engage with Women’s Aid. He will also mark the signing of a 700 million euro (£604 million) contract for a new fleet of cross-border trains. Speaking ahead of his visit, the Taoiseach said he is pleased to be returning to Belfast. “My visit includes multiple opportunities to hear directly from political, business and civic leaders and to discuss ongoing and evolving all-island priorities which benefit us all,” he said. “I am also pleased to be delivering the Lord David Trimble Lecture at Queen’s University. David played a critical role in the achievement of the Good Friday Agreement. “The principles and purpose of the Agreement remain central to what my Government does and how we foster relationships across these islands.” He added: “I am committed to continuing to work toward reconciliation and mutual trust, as we collectively set out to do in 1998, including through the Shared Island Initiative.” Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 will have updates throughout the day.

Preparations for Irish Unity must happen now. The days of saying ‘yes to Unity but not now’ must end. It’s time for the Irish government to prepare for referendums, engage with people & grasp the opportunity of a United Ireland. Pléimis í, pleanálaimis di.

“This should include preparations for constitutional change, mapping out how a United Ireland would increase Ireland’s role in the EU decision-making process – and ensuring representation for the North within the EU in the meantime.” - @Kathleensf1

We can achieve unity referendums by 2030 but preparations need to start now! Sinn Féin will bring forward legislation before the summer compelling the Irish government to publish a Green paper & to convene a series of Citizens’ Assemblies to advance the discussion on Irish Unity
