On the road with our director 🛻 took him to Bryan, Texas yesterday. Derrick was the guest speaker at the Daughters of The Republic of Texas Robert Henry Chapter's Texas Independence Day Luncheon.

Yesterday marked the 190th anniversary of the fall of the Alamo. Among our collection is the poem “The Alamo” by Antoinette Power “Nettie” Houston Bringhurst, daughter of Sam and Margaret Houston. The piece was published in San Antonio in 1907.

#OnThisDate in 1836, the Alamo fell to the Mexican Army. A popular stop at the museum is the Alamo diorama. It was the work of Gene Eric Salecker. He donated the project to the museum after participating in the Sesquicentennial events at the Alamo in 1986.

Today, we celebrate General Sam Houston, who was born on this date in 1793, AND the 190th birthday of Texas. Happy Birthday Sam! Happy Texas Independence Day!

Last week, we welcomed history students from Lone Star College-North Harris for a tour and a behind-the-scenes look inside our vault. We always enjoy connecting with students who are exploring a future in public history.

Installation is currently underway for our next exhibit, "Remembering You, David Adickes". We will host the opening reception on Monday, March 2 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the Katy & E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center. Remarks will be given at 5:30 p.m. We hope you can join us!

In honor of Sam Houston's Birthday and the 190th Anniversary of Texas Independence, we will have special hours on Monday, March 2. Typically, we are closed on Mondays, but for this special day we will be OPEN from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with free admission.
