@SHONENVENUS on some level, it feels less abt the actual characters and more abt aesthetic. it is ofc easier to rewrite two characters with minimal interactions/emotional involvement so they fit a (shallow) toxic yaoi dynamic than it is to read+engage with them as they are in canon
