An annual average of 36,596 new homes were built in New Jersey from 2020 through 2024 - more than the annual average for any decade over the past 30 years, according to a new Rutgers University study that found New Jersey is building homes at its fastest pace in decades. The state was led by Hudson, Ocean and Bergen Counties, which saw an annual average of 5,777, 3,923 and 3,648 new homes built during that five year span.

While LIRR service is suspended, we'll offer limited weekday shuttle bus service to/from six Long Island locations. Buses will run during peak hours with limited reverse-peak service on some routes. Be sure to give yourself ample time if you plan to take a shuttle bus. There's no charge for shuttles, but you'll need to tap and ride to transfer to the subway and MTA buses. Get details on shuttle bus sites at our website: mta.info/lirrstrike

Air Quality Health Advisory from @NYSDEC @HealthNYGov Monday’s AQI is forecast (5/18) is 105 (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups) due to elevated levels of ground-level ozone. Air quality affects everyone but those who are part of sensitive groups—such as children, older adults, and people with asthma, lung disease, or heart conditions—are at higher risk. At this level, experts recommend that children and other sensitive individuals avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity, especially during the afternoon and early evening when ozone levels are typically highest. Watch for symptoms:
• Coughing
• Throat irritation
• Shortness of breath
• Wheezing or chest tightness
• Headache or dizziness
• Fatigue
• Watery or irritated eyes
• Worsening of asthma or other lung conditions Call 911 for severe symptoms.
Check current conditions on airnow.gov and get health guidance at nyc.gov/airquality. Ground-level ozone forms when sunlight reacts with nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These pollutants come from vehicles, construction equipment, industrial facilities, electric utilities, gasoline vapors, and chemical solvents.
