After taking a more modest approach to free agency than most fans would have liked, the Bucs had a lot of boxes to check heading into this year's draft. Below you’ll find analysis & grades for each pick, as well as my final grade for the Bucs draft class. si.com/nfl/buccaneers…

I love the idea of empowering the ‘behind the scenes’ people who work their asses off all year round to help formulate these franchise altering decisions. They deserve at least an occasional moment in the spotlight. Shout out to Jason Licht who started this trend years ago in Tampa. It may be catching on.

Love that the @Panthers gave the opportunity for area scouts to answer questions after players they scouted were selected by the team Gives them face time, media reps and they speak differently about the players than HCs and GMs

@domwillb Yes, him! The same Devin White who, despite being just 28 years of age, is on his 3rd team in the last 2 years.

@SI_Buccaneers You mean Super Bowl champion and considered the best inside backer in the game—going into 2021 Devin White?

As much the Bucs want to improve their physicality and toughness (which Josiah Trotter can certainly do) his lack of coverage ability makes it tough to justify taking him 46th overall. Did we learn nothing from the Devin White, K.J. Britt & SirVocea Dennis experiences?

@surfrenegade I can see why you would assume that pick was forced. But for all we know, the Bucs might just see a lot of potential in the player? They did move draft capital to go get him after all.

@SI_Buccaneers The TE was 100% forced. But the rest of the draft was an A+ And I have about 20 guys right now with draftable grades who may become UDFAs...

What’s so impressive about the Bucs’ draft is that Jason Licht managed to address every positional need (EDGE, LB, WR, DB, DT, OG, TE) without ever feeling like it was forced. The majority of those selections were widely considered value picks, & they all hit on positions of need.

Keionte Scott, Tykee Smith, Antoine Winfield Jr., & Jacob Parrish in the same secondary? Each one has a disrupt and destroy mentality on the field. Bucs fans are about to see a pod of heat seeking missiles wreaking havoc on the back end of Todd Bowles’ defense this season.

@CodyG417 Definitely a great situation for him to walk into. In addition to having a high character WR room, he isn’t needed to produce right away, yet the opportunity is there for him to do so should he prove to have the capability.

@SI_Buccaneers Hell of a landing spot for him too. Great mentors in the wr room and can ease him in because of the talent around him

I really dig how Rueben Bain Jr. handled his introductory press conference today. He cane across as a very focused & thoughtful dude who just has a genuine passion for violent football that burns extremely deep. Personality seems to match the tape 🔽 youtube.com/live/r3bQ5an1r…

The obvious goal for the Bucs is to come away with either C.J. Allen or Jacob Rodriguez tonight. If Licht pulls that off (dare I say without moving up) then we’re really cooking with gas.
Jon Ledyard@LedyardNFLDraft

Everyone in my Tier 1 and Tier 2 of players in this class (17 players) went in Round 1 except for Tennessee CB Jermod McCoy Best players left on my board CJ Allen (22) Jacob Rodriguez (23) Cashius Howell (25) D'Angelo Ponds (28) Emmanuel McNeil-Warren (29) Chase Bisontis (31)

Bucs were in what I thought was the very worst spot possible in this 1st round and they got one of the biggest gifts I’ve ever seen oh my god. Compound Bain sliding with what the next names up were gonna be like and I’m not sure it’s hyperbolic to say this is franchise changing.
Carter Donnick@CDonnick1

IMO the middle of Round 1 is a very bad spot to be if your biggest/one of biggest needs is an EDGE this year (Bucs, Cowboys, even Chargers). Lots of names that I think will reach say 40th overall that I think are awfully close to the best names that will be there at 15.

Excellent work from @HaydenWinks breaking down exactly how Bucs’ new edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. dominated his opposition in College despite his lack of arm length, and why he expects that success to translate to the next level.
Underdog NFL Draft - Josh & Hayden@UDFootballShow

@UnderdogNFL T-Rex arms be damned 🦖 Rueben Bain is built to win in the NFL and will thrive with the Tampa Bay Bucs ☠
