You gotta break it all down. One section at a time. sit down, do some active listening. Listen thoroughly to each instrument line, and pay attention to the role they play in the music. sooner or later, you'll be confident, and add your own twist to the mix.

The State of Play was pretty good. better than the recent partner showcase imo Galactic Racers and Castlevania were the highlights for me

@MrMadbrain Interesting, thanks for elaborating. I forgot the noise generator could be tweaked in that way. Was reverb used as much in the sfx process?

@SJCompose Admittedly squaresoft used many unusual tricks in general: - Noise mode with rate changes - Pitch mod of a channel with another (Lavos fx) - Overflowing the ADPCM decoder to create pitched noise (Wind) - Overwriting a pulse wave in ram while playing for PWM (Chrono "wrong" buzz)

The creation of sfx for snes games isn't talked about enough.

@MrMadbrain Yeah I guess that's essentially what it is. The magic sfx in squaresoft games seem more complex tho. It's pretty impressive.

@SJCompose It's like smallish waves and noise loops pitched up and down with volume changes, no?
