Yesterday, Metro and VCET Officers served a fentanyl related search warrant at an unhoused encampment in south San Jose. The two primary suspects were taken into custody nearby and the subsequent search yielded two firearms, narcotics for sale, drug paraphernalia, and over $17,000 in cash! 💵 💸 Can you believe both suspects were prohibited from owning firearms? 🤨Another case with more questions than answers. On July 12, 1924, at approximately 6:20 PM, a citizen reported a man forcibly taking a female from a residence on East Julian Street. Sergeant Hubbard, a seven-year veteran, and Officer Murphy, both plain clothes detectives, responded to East Julian Street. Sergeant Hubbard and Officer Murphy located the suspect and the victim at Julian and 15th Streets. Sergeant Hubbard drew his gun and ordered the suspect to surrender. The suspect turned and fired a single shot. Neither detective was struck. Sergeant Hubbard, Officer Murphy and the suspect were then involved in a shootout. As a result of the shootout, Sergeant Hubbard was struck in the abdomen by the suspect. The suspect was struck in the wrist and chest and died as a result of his injuries. Sergeant Hubbard was transported to San Jose Hospital. Prior to surgery Sergeant Hubbard was conscious, however, later died in surgery. Sergeant Hubbard was the first San Jose Police Officer killed in the line of duty. Today marks the 100th Anniversary of Sergeant Hubbard' End of Watch.

All of the above! San José is now holding spectators responsible for their role in the use of dangerous and illegal fireworks. Any person who is knowingly present and watching an unpermitted fireworks exhibition is subject to a fine. San José also expanded liability to the social host, or person hosting a gathering where fireworks are used. The social host and property owner will be held liable for emergency response costs resulting from the use of illegal fireworks. Those who use illegal fireworks also get fined, and even more if they have multiple violations. Please stay safe on Fourth of July and remember --- it's just not worth it.
