@StevePigott7 $20bnn is a pretty aggressive valuation up which to sell 25% from a purely financial perspective. But as you say, it means they will want a return that has to be paid for by more games and more tickets

@slbsn Please explain why it makes commercial sense ? Each fa gets a bit of a bonus for a.couple.of.years, but then the investors want Thier money back where does that come from !

Amazing story. Makes a lot of sense from a purely commercial perspective from a pure FIFA perspective. (depending on your view as to who really owns FIFA). But guarantees hugely expensive World Cup tickets and incentivises finding more FIFA tournaments. Spain and France sold parts of their commercial arms to subsidise their clubs in a post Covid, difficult financial landscape. This rationale doesn't really apply now or to FIFA generally. Also begs the question why they need to raise, say, $5bn. What is that for? Just more payments to national federations? Seems an unlikely cause unless someone need to make voters happy.

@slbsn @CitizenSuburbia Those private jets, fancy dinners and Swiss offices don’t come cheap. Do they still have that charity tax exemption?

One of many questions is who pays FIFAs bills if all the events are stripped out into a separate commercial entity. In 2024, FIFA lost $800m before interest and tax. It lost $500m in the Club World Cup year with $2bnn comp revenue. The financials only work on a 4 year cycle with the events funding the costs. The Men’s World Cup is an amazing event and, increasingly, a fabulously financially impressive one. But nothing else pays the bills like the World Cup.

@CitizenSuburbia Indeed. But it not the only cost - c$300m pa on non-football, non-event admin expenses in a non-main event year

@slbsn The largest bill is the cssh contribution to the associations, which presumably goes with this program.

Interesting if not wholly suprising - particularly at this time stamp... youtu.be/bz5unCjSp_k?t=… "I know that some players cannot survive in Manchester. ... Because it rains too much. And I know that some players would not be able to stay here. ... But because of the rain and I know that after 6 months, they would be 'I need sun.' No, there is no sun. There's wonderful other stuff, but there is no sun. So I cannot bring here it's very unlikely that I could bring here for example a player that I have in Rio de Janeiro because all cariocas cannot be under the rain. No this guy cannot be far from the sun this specific guy. And when you know this you avoid many mistakes."

@EdwinMakurah If it was a company the timing would be perfect. But a double header US tournament is quite unusual. Should be a couple of clips of me on ITV News at 10 later if interested

@slbsn That is my big concern with this. I sense they will be looking to maintain the revenues from 2026 going forward, anyway, but this would just make it more certain.

@danielcity22 As Neidle says, it is a diary change. Just less days in the country. I'm too young still but the idea I'll be here November to February - no chance. But that is with no tax so its all degrees
