@mjshrimper The IOC have finally woken to the mess their previous policy caused DSDs cases distort fair female competition (2016 Rio 800m). Early screening will remove public scrutiny. Ultimately, if a DSD causes male advantage, exclusion from the female category is correct
Ross Tucker@Scienceofsport

Our latest podcast & discussion on the IOC Policy to Protect Women's Sport. We explain how we got here, what the Policy says *shall* happen (female only, SRY screen), & how it might be implemented, along with likely challenges 🎧 podcasts.apple.com/za/podcast/fem… 📺 youtube.com/watch?v=BM323L…

Rows about eligibility for female events at OGs have raged forever but have, more recently, become the biggest row. Early reaction to the ban has focused on trans athletes but the impact on DSD athletes is more significant, IMO. That row will rumble on. nytimes.com/athletic/71489…

Here is the policy document. It explains the background, and how a Working Group arrived at its recommendations, including SRY screening & testing for eligibility. As mentioned, more to say in support & for context, in a podcast a bit later today: stillmed.olympics.com/media/Document…

A giant leap forward for women’s sport. They’ve done the right thing with a strong, clear policy. No equivocation, no tap-dancing, no pretence of “balancing priorities.” Plus, a means to test for eligibility. Those responsible (this time) deserve real congratulations. More later

The 2021 Framework document was one of the worst bits of thinking I've ever read about fairness in sport. I'm no longer a Trotskyist, but 'into the dustbin of history' seems apt. I'll be opening some fizz later on because of this sentence:

@DaleJohnsonBBC @MarkRose513691 In this instance wouldn’t Liverpool in 8th have qualified for the ECL via the league? That being the case I thought that the ECL place wasn’t reallocated if a team won the UCL, UEL or ECL

She generously read an advance copy of Terf Island and gave me this endorsement: “Proud to have been an outspoken Terf Islander although I came to the protest a little later than the women in this book. “Defending the rights of women and children was a tough, dangerous and painful battle. These women never gave up. We must all thank them for saving our sex.” Dame Jenni Murray, writer and broadcaster ❤️

@martynziegler Odd hatchet on the young lad. Was excellent when he came on. Yes a mistake with the kick on at the end but he had already won a turnover A lot of more experienced players let the team down and shouldn’t play again

A mad match and finale Fra v Eng. One for Pollock to forget though. Having taunted France, he managed to go from potential match winner when ripping the ball in last minute to loser - instead of keeping possession he lost it at a critical time.

@DaleJohnsonBBC Can you explain the forfeiting? Is the max for English teams not 11? 7 UCL ( 4 + UCL win (not top 4) + UEL win (not top 4) + coefficient), 3 EL (PL + FAC/PL + UCoL win) + 1 UCoL (FLC/PL)

Brentford get the UCL EPS place in seventh. Prem has seven teams in the UCL. England would forfeit both UEL places, OR one UEL and one UCoL, subject to who wins the FA Cup.
Griffin Park Grapevine (Brentford FC)@bfcgpg

@DaleJohnsonBBC and if it ends like this? 1. Arsenal 2. Man City 3. Man United 4. Chelsea 5. Liverpool (win UCL) 6. Villa (win EL) 7. Brentford

@runthinkwrite Very good article but I can’t help but think you’ve wasted your time writing it and our time reading it (but at least we can avoid the “book”) People who think there are no differences between males and females aren’t serious humans and should be ignored and/or laughed at

I am going to post today's provocation & then immediately depart for the gym in order to avoid the inevitable blowback. I hate the Winter "Olympics". Half the world cannot take part (no snow, no ice) & most events look more like pastimes than sport. There. I've gone & said it.
