@SLB_211

I love watching, learning and thinking about the parallel lives that surround us: the animals and birds. Apologies for poor iphone photos!

Keep calm and peanut on! Went out to see the #Magpies on this snowy day and this gorgeous Canada Goose came to see me. (They don’t eat peanuts!) Springtime indeed!

@FlintBlackBird @SLB_211 I was watching the rooks in Zurich building their nests yesterday. It's a huge operation and I think several family members get involved. At one point, I was showered by the fluff of sycamore seed pods that one was rook was ripping apart - presumably to line the nest with 🙂

Downtown #Magpies 2 pair. These guys are starting to gather twigs for nests. He (in front) is being quite protective of his mate and they’re much closer to each other than their normal foraging activity. 🤔 Must be spring!

@stonedragonlisa Yes! They are uncommon here. 16-18”. The ones we usually see (downy woodpeckers) are much smaller - 7”! Very dramatic bird!

Mrs. Banff Magpie has found something very interesting to eat. 😳 I’ve seen them pulling at the same thing here. Bugs awakening from their winter sleep? An old stash? Whatever it was - must be tasty 😋 And they’re not lining up for peanuts anymore. #Spring #Magpies

The star of the show from a rainy trip to Banff, #PileatedWoodpecker works a utility pole and pauses to shake off the rain. Not #Magpies 🖤🤍❤️

@thebrewboy Sad. I felt bad about these birds. I used to work in that building and we would watch them building nests. Then when they were almost done, building management pulled the whole thing down. 😢 The birds that nest earliest have the best chance of raising one or two successfully.

@SLB_211 I saw Spike and his partner gathering twigs for nests on Tuesday but it's quite sad. The nest they use is in trees overlooking the train platform and they cut it down last week to make way for a railway track extension. Still, they don't make a fuss. They just get on with it 🙄
