@AshleyGardini @JSTOR_Daily They read an excerpt from the intro for Metabolism: The Proposals for New Urbanism (Kikutake, et al). I also assigned a few short videos because I think those give a sense of the spatial qualities in a way that drawings and photos don't. It was a good discussion.

Just learning the #SAHDataProject final report was published this morning. Congrats @SAH1365. Seeing the cover for the first time--looks sharp! Eager to dive in at some point soon. Really hoping this data helps some of you now & improves things for future arch historians, too.

New mothers, chronically ill people, folks taking care of elder parents, underpaid museum professionals need pay equity, not a FT teaching job. They can't speak up publicly but I hear from them privately *a lot*.

That's roughly what our research found, too. Agree re family responsibilities. Would be worth exploring. Possible it overlaps with did not need or want to work more?

(They can cite more than one reason.) The large gap between humanities and the average on family responsibilities is puzzling.

I know from decades of personal experience & agree change is needed ASAP. But a lot of adjuncts have shared details w me privately. Making their positions FT would be bad for them. If we have data about this, I'd love to see it.

Anyway, I was asking abt data. Giving students the chance to learn directly from non-ac & alt-ac professionals can have huge social justice benefits. How often are adjunct positions used for that purpose?

Any evidence that bringing real-world experience into the classroom inspires students to stay in the humanities?

Any data about people who use adjuncting to keep working when they can't be FT due to family care-giving duties, chronic illness/disability, etc?
