On day one set clear, high expectations and follow through with the consequences. If you begin the year relaxed, it will make the year hard.

Visuals are always good and I also like to give choices. Right now I have “break cards” for a student when he feels himself escalating. Work still has to be done but a break can be given to calm down.

@SMM07 Just taking the time to listen to them is a huge deal too.

Having a relationship with students is important so you can know which tool to use...getting on their “level” and listening to understand their POV is one tool I use.

@Springhillbrier Classroom management is setting up routines and procedures and following through with expectations. Discipline has a more negative connotation. It’s reacting to behavior problems with consequences. #standOUTchat
