@kansasrunning The writing was on the wall when KU Athletics decided to not host the Rim Rock XC Classic that KU Relays was likely on the chopping block. While the College side of the meet has decline, the HS side of the meet is still great. Could be hosted as HS only!

BREAKING: Kansas Athletics announced today that the 2026 Kansas Relays will not take place. Founded in 1923, the Kansas Relays have been a cornerstone of track and field for more than a century, with champions ranging from Jayhawk legends Jim Ryun and Billy Mills to 11-time Olympic medalist Allyson Felix. Athletic Director Travis Goff said the decision was the best option as KU navigates “expense management” due to the House v. NCAA settlement, which requires schools that opt in to fund up to $20.5 million annually in athlete revenue sharing. “It really is tied most directly to expense management, and just needing to get our legs underneath us in this new chapter with the House settlement,” Goff said. The pause is expected to save roughly $350,000 in expenses, but Goff emphasized this is not the end of the 102-year-old tradition, rather a short-term decision as the department adjusts to the new financial landscape. It’s also worth noting that over the summer, KU Athletics stepped away from the Rim Rock Farm Classic, the annual high school meet that brought nearly 2,500 athletes to Lawrence last September. 📸 Kansas Athletics

Solid year for the SMS AP Biology crew. Over 89% of the exam takers scored 3 or higher. This was the largest group to the take the AP Biology Exam for SMS in quite a number of years. Proud of the effort and time put into the course by those students.

The hot streak continues! 🔥 Shawnee Mission South senior Max Larson just capped off a historic distance campaign on Saturday, setting the new 5000m state record. At the inaugural KRONOS Distance event, Larson outlasted the lights, running 14:37.22 to break Lane Boyer’s (Fredonia) record of 14:46 from 2007. Larson had some help early from Trinity Academy’s Caleb Tofteland (14:50) and Mill Valley’s Dalamar Read (15:05), but eventually pulled away by 13 seconds, becoming the first Kansas boy to break 14:40 on the track. Solid district meet for the Raiders last night. Varsity girls and boys and JV girls placed 2nd as a team. JV boys were 3rd. 13 event champions and 55 total medalists. 58 athletes set 63 new PRs last night👏👏
