I recently picked up a few Sailor Moon karaoke LDs, and one of them surprisingly included footage from the R movie in its original 4:3 fullscreen aspect ratio. It really makes you realize what a missed opportunity it was for Toei to never release the entire film that way.

@daus0n Yeah — the Pioneer version was actually the 4:3 presentation of the movie’s first draft/early cut before the final theatrical version was completed. Also, the colors were different.

@SMoonCenter The pioneer dub didn’t have the 4:3? Or this is a different version from that?

@Le_Black_Lodge Yes! They actually rescanned the film for the 4K version. Didn’t they digitally redraw/touch up frames for the DVD and Blu-Ray versions?
