@SNLinReview Geez cold open was maybe best of the season...then downhill..monologue started strong ran out of steam..from then on sketches were so underwritten despite Ferrell trying hard..even NewsDesk normally the best all season was average and McCartney cannot sing, that is elder abuse

Each year, I use the poll numbers from @SNLinReview weekly SNL episodes to make a kinda GPA for the episode. (4 points for an A, etc). Then I average them. Here are season 51s stats. @thesnlnetwork @snlmikemurray #snl

Cosmo Girl! With A Pearl Earring
@SNLinReview Nope. Ferrell fell flat (which is never something I thought I’d say), but it’s cute that he’s still trying ❤️ And they didn’t utilize Ashley Padilla enough for me, especially after her absence last week. She’s been iconic this season and a legend in the making.

Interesting piece… but not at all how taped segments were done in the first couple decades of SNL. Early days, segments came in from outside of the main production. The Schiller pieces were specialty one offs. Mr Bill was never in-house. Albert Brooks shot on his own. I was there for the early film unit years. We occasionally used studio space, but shot almost everything on location and had no set space. We shot a bunch in the 17th fl writers office space, dressed as all kinds of interiors. We even did shoots out of NY, at FL spring training for instance. And I think our team was the first to hire out for animation, though it got to be a habit in the TV Funhouse era. Schedule was similarly crazy, though we often shot Thursday and Friday and sometimes even on Wednesday when a script was greenlit the week ahead. Editing usually started Friday dinner time and went into the afternoon Saturday. nytimes.com/interactive/20…

@SNLinReview Happy to put this season out to pasture. After a pretty good rebound season last year, this one was a dud.

@SNLinReview Was a nice nostalgia episode with appropriate cameos, particularly Chad Smith. I enjoyed Paul McCartney. Good finish to the season. Overall not an exceptional show, but good enough I rate it grade "B."
