Removing Dan Jarvis to find a spot for Wes Streeting shows a contempt for Defence at a time they need continuity and someone who understands the new way of warfare and the men and women of the armed forces. @DefenceHQ @haynesdeborah @larisamlbrown

Good news that VAT will be cut on electricity bills. It’s a simple way for families to save a few quid, and to mechanically help to keep inflation that little bit lower.
But the DigitalID program was unfunded.
The government will have to set out how it will pay for its new policies at the budget.
John Healey@JohnHealey_MP
Today’s energy tax cut will give families some breathing room on bills, and provide some reassurance this winter. This will be funded from the cancelled Digital ID scheme this year, helping to bring down inflation while supporting households in every postcode.

"Watchdog accused of ‘giving away’ billions of litres of spring water to foreign bottling giants."
Yep the EA are up to their old tricks again. The EA are charging Coca-Cola £6,070 a year to abstract water from the north of England which Coca-Cola then sells for £30 million.
Did I mention that according to the EA by 2050 in England we will need to find another 5 billion litres of water per day just to keep our taps running and to try and save our chalk streams.
What a hoax of a regulator.

🚨🗣 Jose Mourinho on Messi and Argentina:
"This world cup actually exposed Messi and Argentina, they're not a good team, just reckless tackles which the referee ignores most of the times"
"Imagine having 0 shot on target in 2 hours of playing football, that says everything about them, they aren't that good and if not for some help, they wouldn't have reach the final"

No jobs bonanza in the North Sea - but huge tax breaks for the fossil fuel companies that have already made record profits at expense of UK economy and bill payers theguardian.com/business/2026/…

Yes take standing charges off gas but also do it for electricity - in both cases it’s regressive, hurts those with the least money, the most. But don't just reduce VAT, take it away completely. Energy is not a luxury, how often do we hear of this choice between heating and eating - neither are luxuries. Remove all remaining stealth taxes yes. But these are only partly to blame for energy bills being too high. The real villain is the market mechanism that forces us to buy green energy at the same price as gas - the link. We’ve proposed three market reforms that between them could halve energy bills - Breaking the Link (worth £5 Billion in a quiet year, madly more in an energy crisis), a CFD for the North Sea (worth £10 Billion a year) and price control of the network operators (worth another £5 Billion a year). Mad sums of money with simple but bold reforms that put People first.

@STC898 @PolitlcsUK Drilling more will not make our energy cheaper. The country doesn’t own the oil fields, private companies own them and they sell the oil to the highest bidder on the international market.

🚨 NEW: The policies Andy Burnham is set to outline when he becomes PM on Monday
- Plans for new oil and gas drilling in the North Sea, a possible break from Labour's 2024 manifesto
- Lower bus fares, potentially through reinstating the £2 bus cap
- Public control of water and energy companies
- Lower energy bills through VAT cuts or by moving older wind and solar farms onto fixed-price contracts
- The biggest council house-building programme since the post-war era
- Social care reform through a cross-party consensus
Burnham will also spend the later part of next week at the new No 10 North in Manchester to symbolise his shift away from Westminster

Hard to think of a more damaging start to Burnham’s premiership than giving green light to new oil & gas in N. Sea, if true. It won’t lower bills or lead to greater energy security but will drive an even hotter more dangerous planet #ClimateVandalism
