Cette place a été construite par un roi sans royaume. Stanislas Leszczyński est roi de Pologne. Deux fois élu. Deux fois chassé du trône. En compensation, Louis XV, son gendre, lui offre le duché de Lorraine en 1737. À Nancy, Stanislas décide de bâtir la plus belle place d'Europe. Pas pour lui. Pour réconcilier la vieille ville médiévale et la ville neuve. Il fait appel à l'architecte Emmanuel Héré. Les grilles dorées sont signées Jean Lamour, le plus grand ferronnier de son temps. Chaque détail est un chef-d'oeuvre d'équilibre et de lumière. Inaugurée en 1755. Classée au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO. La Place Stanislas porte le nom d'un homme qui a tout perdu. Sauf le goût de la beauté.

One of the most iconic door knockers in Islamic art. Now in the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts in Istanbul, this extraordinary bronze knocker originally came from the Great Mosque of Cizre. Formed by two confronted dragons joined by a central lion’s head, it is usually dated to the 12th–13th century and stands out as one of medieval Anatolia’s most remarkable surviving works of architectural metalwork.

The Ark of Bukhara fortress, first occupied in the 5th century. It was badly damaged in the 1920s during a Russian air raid, but a lot of work has been undertaken to restore large parts of it (which is ongoing - I spotted chaps working away today). It’s a formidable structure.
