The City, with our Urban Forestry Division are proud to be part of @SPARJax's Project Canopy 🌳 The last of 270 trees have just been planted in Historic Springfield. Thanks to all of the sponsors, as well as City Councilmen Chris Miller & @jimmyforjax for your collaboration.

Excellent turn out tonight. One sentence summary: traffic improvements coming to 1st and Walnut Street, 10th Street and Hubbard St., and Hubbard St. and Ionia St. due to neighborhood support; petitions to be mailed to homeowners shortly.

Unfortunately, we recently lost a beautiful local landmark in our Historic District due to an emergency demolition for faulty structural integrity. Severe problems such as this don't happen overnight, often taking many years to develop. We hope to find a solution with @CityofJax.

Before it became a place for nonprofits, The Jessie was originally Jacksonville’s main library. On the first floor, the pink brick mural with the unusual arch hints at that past. On the south side of the mural, an alcove originally held a sink for library workers who received and repaired books, allowing them to wash their hands and protect the delicate materials they handled. 📷 Photo by Ingrid Damiani
