My house in the Pacific Palisades back in the day. My house today.

Like an appreciation of progress, reading and literacy are among the things that are good but cognitively unnatural. That is, they go against our evolved nature. We didn’t evolve with print; it was a recent invention. Reading, for many of us, has become so second nature that we just assume it’s the most natural way of getting information. But what we’ve seen, especially in the last 10 years, when video has become so cheap because of the cloud computing revolution and the broadband revolution, is that a lot of people, unlike us, much prefer to listen and watch than to read. You just see this: when I go to Google and ask a basic question about how to unstick my printer or solve a problem, I get like five videos. And I just want a paragraph that would solve it. I don’t want to see Seth saying, “Hi, welcome to my show. If you like it, subscribe and give it a like.” So just help me solve the problem. But clearly there’s something unusual about me, because people are going for the video. And the massive availability of video—of TikTok, of YouTube—means that people may not be getting the practice or putting in the effort into literacy, which we have reason to believe was one of the drivers of the Flynn effect and of cognitive sophistication in general. @HumanProgress

Why is Santa Barbara one of the prettiest cities in California? Answer: The zoning laws (Title 30) heavily emphasize preserving a "Spanish Colonial" aesthetic, prioritizing strict architectural design guidelines, height limits, and maintaining a Mediterranean, low-density feel.

Something that is going extinct is the affordable seaside town. There used to be a large number of towns that were right in the ocean, had cheap houses, had arcades and mini golf for kids, and were a mix of cheap family entertainment and cheap nightlife. That is all rapidly disappearing with 1) population increases and 2) remote work and 3) the internet. Everyone realized all at once that these places were great opportunities to leave by the beach full time, covid gave them the opportunity. So the arcades get knocked down to build mansions. The put put gets replaced with gazebos. There’s not much you can do about this at this point. But it’s crazy to think how much beautiful property used to be available to anyone willing to live outside the rat race. And now the rat race moved in next door.

@SPJffrson Of course, Peter Thiel, a man with obviously no axe to grind against Catholicism or views that conflict with the Church, would say that (and people like you believe him🙄).

🧵 The Etymology of Productivity: In Spanish, the word for work, “trabajo” comes from the Vulgar Latin tripaliāre, which means “to torture.” The root is the tripalium: a Roman torture device made of three stakes used to immobilize and beat slaves or criminals. Working/Trabajando is confession of physical pain and submissiveness. You were being "worked over" by a system you were too weak to escape. On the other hand: In English, “work” comes from the Germanic root for "to act" or "to do." It is functional. It is a verb of agency. English-rooted cultures view productivity as a moral good, while Latin-rooted cultures often view it as a burden to be avoided.

The best part is that the America that Japanese people adore the most… is the same one that coastal elites call “flyover trash” They’re not autistically LARPing NY cynicism or SF polycule / LA wellness culture. They’re drawn to the heartland of the American South and all its trappings - the jacked-up trucks, backyard BBQs, country radio, big skies and the friendly "yes ma'am" drawl.

The fact is, we are living in historical times. The turning point can no longer be denied by anyone. Everything is changing de facto. The time before Corona we will probably never have again. And more and more truth is coming to light. So the narratives, the old narratives are collapsing. For what is to come.

Everything that's great about California is baked in, and everything that sucks about California is fixable. It's just one of those spots on Earth where a "main character" civilization is inevitable.

People are so confused about this tweet, so let me elaborate. Yes, AI will eventually create art that is as good or even better than humans. But, humans will not care for it, beside an initial curiosity, because art is not about art. It’s about the humans who created it and their stories. Art it’s an exploration of human limits. Humans are fundamentally not interested in what other species do, think or feel. How many people watch AI play chess?

Really awful what's happening with the Boston Symphony, America's greatest orchestra. More and more symphony CEOs are seeing musicians as interchangeable parts instead of the soul of the enterprise – they're just employees now, nothing noteworthy about them. Very demoralizing.

The modern Democratic Party operates under a profound, engineered psychosis, a collective delusion cultivated over eight years of sophisticated subversion. At the center of this institutional rot stands Barack Obama. Democrats treat him with uncritical reverence, a glaring testament to their collective intellectual bankruptcy and subservience to manufactured narratives. They are a party composed of willing sycophants who gleefully traded the American republic for a cult of personality. We are now witnessing the systematic unraveling of his legacy, exposed purely as a calculated dismantling of our foundational principles. The 2025 and 2026 declassifications orchestrated by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard lay bare the stark reality of this betrayal. The Obama administration weaponized the intelligence community to execute a political coup against the American voter. James Comey, James Clapper, and John Brennan functioned as a triad of deep state operatives, manufacturing and politicizing intelligence to undermine Donald Trump. This was a treasonous conspiracy. They fabricated the Russia hoax to paralyze a duly elected president and subvert the will of the electorate. Trump correctly identified this as the crime of the century. The ongoing Department of Justice subpoenas issued in early 2026 confirm the unprecedented magnitude of this corruption. Obama personally oversaw the systematic surveillance of political opponents, deploying the state apparatus to spy on the Trump campaign under the guise of national security. The unmasking of American citizens and the withholding of exculpatory evidence were deliberate tactics designed to launch a fraudulent witch hunt. This is the exact definition of tyranny. His foreign policy was equally catastrophic, designed to empower our enemies and weaken American hegemony. Obama loaded unmarked cargo planes with 1.7 billion dollars in untraceable cash and delivered it directly to the mullahs in Tehran. He funded the very terror networks, including Hamas and Hezbollah, that actively seek the destruction of American allies and the destabilization of the Middle East. The Iran nuclear deal was an outright capitulation. It enriched global terrorists under the guise of diplomatic progress while paving the way for Iranian nuclear proliferation. Trump righteously terminated this disastrous pact to halt their nuclear ambitions and restore American strength. Obama’s strategy was pure weakness, a deliberate concession of American leverage that left our allies vulnerable and our enemies emboldened. The blood of American patriots forever stains Obama's legacy. In Benghazi, his administration abandoned Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other heroes to a coordinated terrorist siege. Rather than mobilize a rescue, Obama and Hillary Clinton peddled a fabricated story about an internet video to conceal their catastrophic failures from the voting public weeks before an election. They knew it was an al-Qaeda-linked terror attack, yet they chose political self-preservation over the truth. SEAL Team 6 families and military veterans continue to rightfully accuse him of supreme betrayal. Concurrently, his Justice Department orchestrated the Fast and Furious scandal, deliberately arming violent Mexican cartels with thousands of weapons. When border patrol agent Brian Terry was murdered with one of these very guns, Obama cowardly invoked executive privilege to shield Eric Holder and his accomplices from congressional accountability. Domestically, Obama unleashed the Internal Revenue Service against his political adversaries. His administration actively targeted conservative, pro-Israel, and Tea Party organizations, weaponizing the tax code to crush dissenting voices and delay their tax-exempt status. This was a classic deep-state abuse of power designed to silence patriotic Americans ahead of crucial electoral contests. The right recognizes this blatant weaponization of government agencies as a hallmark of his tenure. The hypocrisy of his personal enrichment is perhaps the most glaring insult to the American public. Here is a man who entered the Oval Office preaching Marxist platitudes about fairness, only to engineer a staggering post-presidency wealth explosion. He parlayed his community organizer credentials into a 135 million dollar fortune through opaque book deals, lucrative Netflix contracts, and blatant influence peddling. The Department of Government Efficiency must aggressively investigate how a public servant accumulated a nine-figure net worth while continuously lecturing the working class about paying their fair share. We must also acknowledge the suppressed truths about his origins and radical ideological foundations. The mainstream media aggressively buried his close personal connections to unrepentant domestic terrorists like Bill Ayers and radical, anti-American figures like Jeremiah Wright. The persistent questions surrounding his background, from his Kenyan grandmother’s statements to the rushed release of a birth certificate heavily scrutinized by experts as a forgery, remain a testament to the opacity of his ascent. Recent public discourse in 2026 proves that the public never bought the fabricated fairy tale sold by a complicit press corps. Today, Obama spends his post-presidency golfing, jet-setting, and criticizing the lack of decorum in politics, completely oblivious to the reality that his own administration ran the most divisive, scandal-plagued operation in modern history. The left clings to his myth because acknowledging the reality of his administration would shatter their entire fragile worldview. He was the architect of a weaponized government, catastrophic foreign policy disasters, and deep-state subversion. The relentless investigations and declassified evidence prove what conservatives have known for years. The reckoning is here. Tick tock. If you like my comments, please consider following me at @EternaRepublica where I will dismantle the left entirely without mercy.

I posted about how education molds the character and forms the mind and got comments by people appalled that I suggest such a thing because people are so stuck on the phrase "critical thinking". Yes, critical thinking is important. But what comes before critical thinking is a good foundation of knowledge of things that are full of truth, goodness, and beauty: stories of great men and women, beautiful art, beautiful music, real history, etc.. Critical thinking comes after there is something in place to which actual thinking and judgment can refer.

Ultimately - the system’s entire problem is that it needs competent men to function, but it has given no stability, status or comfort to those men. Every major project of the era is about trying to figure out how to get around this fact.
