I'm not dismissing the idea that Mario media is deserving of thoughtful narratives, and the film wasn't perfect by any means. But also that the value of Mario games isn't defined by detailed worldbuilding, emotional character arcs, or even coherent narrative.

All of this discourse about the Mario movie has me feeling two ways. On one hand, I firmly believe we *should* have integrity when it comes to kids' media, that kids should be getting films and shows that are thoughtful and engaging. On the other hand, it's fucking *Mario*.

@tazixing @upperbodyinvul Interesting. I'm not a native Japanese speaker, so I'm always interested in how "accents" become dialects or a different set of words as opposed to different phonetics. Weirdly I only hear Japanese spoken with an "accent" with characters of American or Italian heritage.

@ScruffyTurtles @upperbodyinvul In Japanese she uses a dialect that's often reserved for characters from China. Like most dialects, it's not that she speaks the language badly, she just uses different wording and verbal tics.

This character should have a win. I am not that difficult to bait, I am the EASIEST mark in the world. You show me a cool kung fu girl who does cool kicks and flips and stuff and I am IN. But I just can't bring myself to feel anything about this character and that upsets me.
