The District continues to encourage everyone to practice water conservation measures, whether at home or at work, and we continue to work with our permittees - both large and small - to reduce water use.

Though Water Conservation Month ends today, the District remains in a Phase II Water Shortage. Predicted rainfall this weekend will be beneficial, but will not be nearly enough to end the drought. We will need more consistent rainfall due alleviate those conditions.

Hurricane season is right around the corner. While it has been dry lately, we know that can change quickly during an active season. It's never too soon to start your preparations.

Due to high fire danger, no OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) riding is currently allowed on District lands. We will continue to monitor conditions and make an announcement if there are any changes.

March was another dry month. The District received an average rainfall of 1.37 inches, which was 69 percent lower than the long-term average of 4.46 inches. As of March 31, we have a Districtwide rainfall deficit of 19.98 inches.

At today's Governing Board meeting, a Modified Phase II Water Shortage Order was issued, which includes additional regulatory measures. This will go into effect on April 22. Learn more here: mysuwanneeriver.com/m/newsflash/ho…

Did You Know? If you turn off the water while brushing your teeth, you could save up to four gallons of water per session! You may not think that sounds like a lot of water, or may not think that one person can make a difference when it comes to water conservation.

Please help conserve water whenever and however you can; you may not think small changes at home can add up, but they do! Every drop counts!

As a reminder, a Phase II Water Shortage is still in effect across our District. While some areas of Florida saw significant rainfall this week, we did not, and the upcoming week's forecast shows warming temperatures and little to no rain.

We appreciate Alachua County's Water Conservation Month proclamation and invitation to attend their meeting last week. We encourage all of our residents to practice water conservation efforts as drought conditions persist throughout Florida.

Drought conditions persist in our District and across Florida. As a reminder, District counties are currently under a Phase II Water Shortage. This includes maintaining a one day per week landscape irrigation schedule, until conditions improve.
