Cambodian Information Minister Neth Pheaktra said that a number of international outlets, particularly Indian media, have published images showing Thai forces destroying a statue of the Hindu deity Vishnu after crossing into Cambodian territory.
In a post on social media on Thursday, December 25, the minister wrote: “Since yesterday and continuing today, various media, especially in India, have published images showing that, after invading Cambodian territory, Thai forces destroyed a statue of Vishnu that had been built on Cambodian soil for worship.” He added that religious communities in India reacted strongly, criticizing Thailand and condemning the act as disrespectful.
Some media outlets questioned whether Thailand had become consumed by war, and why its military would go so far as to destroy a large Hindu statue in Cambodia. Combined with comments made today by the Thai Prime Minister and government spokespersons, which many observers felt failed to show respect toward Hindu followers, public anger has intensified, leading to widespread condemnation of the Thai military. Many have called the destruction “wrongful” and warned that such actions will not go unanswered.
It should be noted that on 24 December 2025, Indian Ministry of External Affairs condemned the demolition of Hindu deity statue by the Thai military.
The Ministry Spokesperson Shri Randhir Jaiswal stated Hindu and Buddhist deities are deeply revered and worshipped by people across the region, as part of our shared civilizational heritage. Notwithstanding territorial claims, such disrespectful acts hurt the sentiments of followers around the world, and should not take place.

BREAKING: Cambodia’s Defense Ministry said a Thai T-50 fighter jet dropped four bombs near Phnom Sampov, a popular tourist destination in Banon district, Battambang Province, at around 10:00 a.m. The strikes hit civilian locations and civil infrastructure after Thai forces crossed into the area, causing chaos at a nearby school where the explosions could be clearly heard.

Two completely different mindsets exist between the aggressor and the defender. Each side is teaching its children to see the world from a fundamentally different perspective. As these children grow, the contrast will become clear. We will honor the parents who instilled in their children the values of humanity, dignity, and sovereignty—rather than aggression and the laws of the jungle.

Destroying a Hindu deity’s statue under the pretext of a border dispute is unacceptable. Whether placed by Cambodia or not, attacking faith and heritage only exposes intolerance.
Both Thailand and Cambodia are Buddhist nations, yet history records repeated persecution of Hindu temples and attempts to erase them. Violence against sacred symbols cannot be whitewashed with slogans. No religion proves its “peace” by destroying another’s faith.

At 10:00 am (December 24, 2025), the Thai military used T-50 fighter jets to drop four bombs into a civilian residential area deep into Cambodian sovereign territory in Banan district, Battambang province, along the route to Pailin Province, before continuing toward Chanthaburi Province. The T-50 is an aircraft manufactured in South Korea. So far, the Thai military has used three types of aircraft—made in the United States, Sweden, and South Korea—to carry out attacks on Cambodia.”

Thailand destroyed a Vishnu deity inside Cambodian territory, then claimed and lied that it was (encroaching) on Thai land. If this is truly Thai territory, where’s the legal map or any concrete basis for the claim? Even in a gray zone, how can Thailand justify such destruction??
This’s no longer a border clash, it’s a deliberate INVASION, a calculated act of destruction and an attempt to erase another’s identity. 🇰🇭

President of the Buddhist Association of Cambodia, Ven. Preah Serikosol Som Sokha, has warned that the destruction of Hindu statues by Thailand could seriously offend more than 1.2 billion Hindus around the world and provoke widespread condemnation.
Speaking on the issue, Ven. Som Sokha said that damaging statues of Hindu deities, regarded as sacred places of worship, could have a profound psychological and spiritual impact on Hindu believers globally.
“There are approximately 1.2 billion Hindus worldwide, representing about 15 percent of the global population, with India being the country that has the largest Hindu population,” he said. “Such actions against sacred statues will undoubtedly be condemned, as they constitute harm to objects of worship deeply revered by Hindu followers.”
Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of External Affairs has issued a statement condemning Thailand over the reported vandalism of a Hindu statue near the Cambodia–Thailand border, allegedly carried out by Thai soldiers. The ministry described the act as one of “utter disrespect.”
A spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that Hinduism and Buddhism are religions revered by people across the region. The spokesperson added that, regardless of territorial disputes or claims, acts that disrespect religious symbols harm the sentiments of believers worldwide and should not be tolerated.
The incident has raised concerns about the protection of religious and cultural heritage in disputed areas and has drawn increasing international attention.

The Thai military’s aggression against Cambodia has included the use of heavy artillery that damaged Buddhist temples, the bombing of Ta Krabei Temple and Preah Vihear Temple, and, most recently, the destruction of a statue of the god Vishnu. These sites are sacred places of worship and spiritual significance for Buddhists, Hindus, and followers of other faiths. For the true custodians of this heritage, witnessing such devastation brings profound sorrow and anguish beyond comparison. Those who are not the rightful owners, however, have shown no compassion for these religious structures or for the cultural and spiritual heritage they embody. They cheered and applauded while deliberately destroying and desecrating these sacred places of worship and religious faith. #ThailandViolatestheceasefire #India #Hindu #Buddhism
