I was a genuine admirer of Pawan Kalyan for years. I always saw him as a hardworking leader who wanted to stand for people and speak for those who felt unheard. That is exactly why his recent comments on Telangana have been so disappointing. First came the remark that "Telangana's evil eye has fallen on Konaseema." My question is simple. What exactly is the connection between Telangana people and the issues being discussed there? Why bring an entire region and its people into a conversation where they have absolutely nothing to do with the problem? Then came another question. "తెలంగాణ మీ అయ్య జాగీరా?" My answer is equally simple. "అవును తెలంగాణ మా అయ్య జాగీరే.. మీ అయ్య జాగీరి కాదు." Not because we claim ownership over Telangana. But because Telangana was not handed to us. It was fought for. For decades, people stood on the streets demanding justice. Students sacrificed their futures. Families endured unimaginable pain. Many gave their lives for the dream of a separate Telangana. This state was built on struggle, sacrifice, self respect and identity. That is why Telangana means so much to us. That is why people react when its dignity is questioned. Then we are told that Telangana people are abusing Andhra people. When did Telangana people collectively target Andhra people? For years, Telangana slang, Telangana dialect and Telangana culture have been mocked, stereotyped and treated as inferior by many. Yet somehow today, Telangana people are being portrayed as the aggressors. Then comes another claim. That Telangana people do not respect Jana Gana Mana or Vande Mataram. Who said that? When did Telangana people ever say that? On what basis are such conclusions being made about an entire region and its people? These are not criticisms of a government. These are not criticisms of a political party. These are broad statements directed at the people themselves. And that is what hurts. In a democracy, every government can be questioned. Every political party can be criticized. Every leader can be challenged. But why repeatedly drag Telangana people into political arguments? Why make sweeping remarks about an entire region? Why question the sentiments of people who take immense pride in their language, culture, history and identity? I genuinely respected Pawan Kalyan once. But respect becomes difficult when comments repeatedly come across as dismissive of Telangana and its people. Above all, Telangana deserves respect.
