St John's RC Academy - Pupil Support

Skills Academy | Our S4 skills academy pupils were doing a bushcraft session this afternoon. They learned about the fire triangle, prepping wood, and how to use a flint and steel. Pupils then toasted marshmallows. 🔥😋

Tayside Track and Field Event | Another brilliant event in Dundee and it was wonderful to see our pupils flourish. The forecast wasn’t good for today, but we got lucky as it stayed dry. 🤞☀️

Mindspace | Our Mindspace group made a bug hotel for the garden in Support for Learning. Pupils will continue to add twigs and leaves to add to the structure. 🐜🐛🕷️🐞🪲

Outdoor Day | Some of our S1 and S2 pupils enjoyed another outdoor day at Bennybeg. Some fantastic belaying and team work on display and encouragement of peers.

🪓 Axe throwing 🪓 We introduced a new activity this week in Support and pupils love it. Our new indoor axe throwing kit has proved to be very popular.

Maths | One of our S1’s completed all these maths cubes in a single period this afternoon! 😮 Impressive work. 👏🏽

Fabrics | One of our S1 pupils has been working with Ms Seward to make an apron. This involved measuring, cutting and embroidery. All ready for the next block of cooking in H.E 👩‍🍳

Outdoor Adventure | A crisp but sunny day rock climbing at Benny Beg in Crieff. Pupils climbed, abseiled and then enjoyed a walk to the nearby loch. Thanks to Rachel and Paul from the Outdoor Team for another fab day. 🧗☀️😎

🐣 Easter Programme 🐣 Mindspace are running some sessions over the Easter holidays. These activities are free.

Lifeskills | One of our S6 pupils has been making spinach, bacon and cheese quiches and is now determined to make these at home. Significant progress made this year under the supervision of Ms Seward.

🔴🔵 Boccia 🔵🔴 5 teams attended the Boccia Festival today at PerthUHI. 4 qualified from the round robin groups, 2 teams made it to the semi-finals and one team to the final. A cracking match but the team lost out 5-3 in the end. Some brilliant play, laser focus and team work.

Practical Cookery | The latest instalment from one of our S6's who has been cooking with Ms Seward each Monday. This morning, Brandyn made banana and dark chocolate breakfast muffins👨‍🍳

Outdoor Adventure | Final outdoor activity day, and pupils canoed to the island at Lochore Meadows. All enjoyed Marshmallows by the fire before walking around the island then returning to shore. 🛶

Outdoor Activity Day | Day 2 of 3 with the Outdoor Team. Pupils explored the old railway tunnels at Glenfarg and were fascinated with them. We then travelled to Maspie Den and walked to the Waterfall which was in full spate. A spectacular sight and thunderous sound.

Gannochy Programme | Another brilliant day with the Gannochy Programme Outdoor Education Instructors, Rachel and Paul. Pupils spent the day climbing and bouldering at Perth Climbing Centre, many achieving their own personal goals. 🧗

Professional Development | An incredible week learning from the amazing Paul McKenzie @NucoTraining in Blairgowrie this week. Of all the years I’ve been doing First Aid, I never had the deeper level of understanding that I do now. Looking forward to delivering to our pupils.

Lifeskills | One of our seniors is continuing to work independently, making his own breakfast each Monday with Ms Seward.

🛶 Outdoor Adventure 🛶 A brilliant day at Lochore Meadows today through the @GannochyTrust Outdoor Programme. Pupils canoed out to the island, sat around the fire and then paddled back. Amazing to see pupils develop confidence and resilience.

Lifeskills | One of our senior pupils has been developing his cooking skills each week with Ms Seward. It's clear to see he is now excelling himself as you can see from the apple pie he made this week.

Lifeskills | These tasty healthy apple breakfast muffins were made by one of our S6 pupils, who is now flourishing in the kitchen due to working with Ms Seward each week. The young person now has the confidence to cook for himself at home and is replicating the recipes.
