Above the Arctic horizon ❄️, NATO's deterrence takes flight. ✈️ For the first time, the UK Carrier Strike Group 🇬🇧 has launched Air Defence missions in support of @NATO in the High North - demonstrating the Alliance's ability to project power, integrate across domains, and maintain a credible deterrence posture in one of the world's most demanding operating environments. This activity is routinely conducted from Keflavik Air Base in Iceland 🇮🇸 and is supported by NATO allies on a rotational basis. Ready to respond. Ready to defend. The High North is a region of strategic importance, where @NATO Allies continue to operate together to preserve security and stability, as part of Arctic Sentry. While conducting routine operations in the Norwegian Sea, the UK's Carrier Strike Group encountered repeated activity from a Russian 'Bear-F' maritime patrol aircraft. The aircraft flew close to HMS Prince of Wales, deployed multiple sonobuoys nearby, and failed to respond on internationally recognised safety frequencies. Two UK F-35s launched from HMS Prince of Wales to intercept and monitor the aircraft, escorting it safely away from the Carrier Strike Group while maintaining a professional and proportionate response. Incidents like these underscore the importance of NATO's persistent presence and integrated operations across the High North. On Tuesday, the NATO Partner Nations Military Representatives 🇩🇿🇦🇿🇧🇦🇨🇴🇬🇪🇯🇴🇰🇼🇰🇬🇲🇹🇲🇦🇳🇿🇲🇩🇨🇭🇺🇿 were welcomed to #STRIKFORNATO 🔱 HQ by our DCOS OPS, RDML Eduardo Guitián Crespo 🇪🇸 and POLAD, LTC Kevin Grilo 🇺🇸. During their visit, the representatives received an overview of our mission and role in delivering high-end maritime strike and defence capabilities to the @NATO Alliance. Partner Nations are an essential part of NATO’s network of security cooperation, bringing valuable perspectives, capabilities, and expertise that strengthen collective security and contribute to peace and stability across the Euro-Atlantic area and beyond. #StrongerTogether 💪

UK Carrier Strike Group now under NATO Command. Over the coming weeks the UK Carrier Strike Group (UKCSG) 🇬🇧will participate in NATO activity as a part of Arctic Sentry. ❄️🛡️ Operating in one of the world's most demanding environments, the UK Carrier Strike Group is conducting high-end exercises in the High North, demonstrating readiness, resilience, and the ability to project combat power wherever required. From carrier aviation and anti-submarine warfare to joint operations with allies, these drills reinforce collective deterrence and freedom of manoeuvre in strategically vital waters. During his visit, Mr. McConville received an overview of STRIKFORNATO’s mission and role in delivering high-end maritime strike and defence capabilities to the @NATO Alliance.
