George Floyd’s Daughter is Now 11 Years Old, But Says She’s Being Bullied by Her Classmates George Floyd’s daughter, Gianna, is still facing bullying at her Texas middle school five years after her father’s death. Classmates use hateful words and false claims that echo attacks on her father’s legacy. Gianna, now 11, once stood on NBA star Stephen Jackson’s shoulders and proudly said, “Daddy changed the world.” Today, she’s targeted by the same right-wing rhetoric trying to discredit George Floyd’s memory. #georgefloyd #murder #nojusticenopeace #policebrutality #bullying #texas #nba

Elijah McClain should have been celebrating his 30th birthday yesterday. He should be alive today. Elijah McClain was a 23-year-old Black man who died at the hands of police and paramedics on August 24, 2019, in Aurora, CO. He was walking home from a convenience store, wearing a ski mask because he had a condition that made him cold, and had not committed or been accused of any crime. After a 911 call reported a “suspicious person,” officers stopped him, put him in a chokehold, and forced him to the ground as he repeatedly said he was just trying to get home and had done nothing wrong. While he was restrained, paramedics injected him with 500 milligrams of ketamine, a dose later shown to have been calculated based on a significant overestimate of his weight and far higher than what would have been appropriate for his small frame. He went into cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital, was declared brain dead days later, and died on August 30, 2019. #racism #policebrutalityawareness #policebrutality #walkingwhileblack #NoJusticeNoPeaceProsecuteThePolice

Remembering... Dayvon Taylor was in the care of a 23-year-old man, Tyler D'Shaun Martin Brand, when he suffered injuries that ultimately led to his death. The child had been in the man’s care for several days over the holiday break. Family members described the man as Dayvon’s coach at a school in South Los Angeles, where Dayvon was a student. Police described the man as an “acquaintance” of the child’s mother. Prosecutors described him as the boy’s godfather. “My son had a lot of love, a lot of love. And it’s really touching that he can’t be here to see it,” Dayvon’s father said. “I loved my son to death. That boy got everything he wanted,” said his mother. But the man who had him for several days decided to punch him in the chest with a closed fist 10 times and the blunt force trauma that he received from that attack resulted in his death. The killer pleaded no contest to murder and was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. He did not get 15 years in prison! For those who don’t know what it means when a sentence says “to life in prison” it means that after a certain amount of years he’ll be eligible for parole. But in the majority of murders, the parole is denied, especially if it involved an innocent, unsuspecting victim. We are hoping that he won’t be paroled in 15 years. This boy did not deserve this. The security guard who died trying to stop the white supremacist who murdered those people at TOPS is named Aaron Salter Jr. Because I know the media isn't going to memorialize this man as a hero, I'm asking all of you to remember who he is and remember his sacrifice. #racism

Susan Kuhnhausen was an emergency room nurse in Portland. In September 2006, after finishing a shift at the hospital, she returned home unaware that a man had broken into her house and was waiting to kill her. The intruder was Edward Haffey, a drug-addicted criminal who had been hired to murder her by her estranged husband, Michael Kuhnhausen. When Haffey attacked, Susan immediately fought back. Because of her medical training and quick thinking, she managed to overpower the larger attacker. During the struggle she pinned him down and choked him until he lost consciousness and died, effectively killing the hitman in self-defense. Afterward, Susan called police and calmly explained what had happened. Investigators soon uncovered that her husband Michael had paid about $7,000 to have her killed so he could avoid a costly divorce. The case went to court in Multnomah County, where prosecutors presented evidence that Michael had orchestrated the murder-for-hire plot. In 2008, he was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Susan was never charged because the killing was ruled lawful self-defense. Her story later became widely known as an example of resilience and presence of mind under extreme danger. #selfdefense #domesticviolence #violence #murderforhire
