“Mr Sir laughed. ‘You see any guard towers? ‘No’ ‘You see an electric fence?’ ‘No Mr Sir’ ‘You want to run away you go right ahead.’ ‘I won’t run away Mr Sir’ ‘Good thinking. Nobody runs away from here. We don’t need a fence, we’ve got the only water for a hundred miles”
Julia Hartley-Brewer@JuliaHB1

No. She. Is. Not. Posing. At. An. Internment. Camp. The Home Secretary @SuellaBraverman is posing for photos at *housing* in Rwanda for deported Channel migrants. Housing. Not a camp. No fences. No prison guards. Free to leave at any time. So, no, nothing like #Germany1930s 🙄

@KerynaB @HughesHaili Seating plans can be amended to incorporate the certain mental Health conditions though. It also means that they can be sat away from people they don’t feel comfortable with

@HughesHaili I disagree. Seating plans are a nightmare for people with certain mental health conditions. People should be able sit with people they feel comfortable with and in a place they feel comfortable.

Seating plans are really important...7.5 years ago, I sat two students next to each other in my English class and they've just messaged me to tell me they've just got engaged 😭

I’ve just finished the audiobook of The Brothers Karamazov. It’s an epic tale that ran to over 50 hours. My verdict? Don’t bother. It’s horrendously dull

I need Christmas questions with numbers as answers. For example, how many wise men were there? (Although that’s quite easy). The children need to give a ‘range’ as their answer and get different points depending on how small or big the range is. I need your Qs!

Can anyone tell me why everyone else should pay 40% inheritance tax over 6 months and wealthy farmers pay 20% over 10 years, tell me how’s that fair?

@GCSE_Macbeth I’m on 44 this year but I include audio books in that total. I would have struggled to understand how anyone could read 3 books a week but then I picked up “This House is Haunted” by John Boyne last night and I’m half way through it already

Seeing all the people who've read 150+ books in 2024 and as ever I can't decide if that sounds amazing or awful.

@RayRayRooRoo77 @TheCinesthetic Sean Bean is one of the all time great death scene actors. I don’t believe I have ever seen him survive a picture except Lady Chatterley’s lover. I still cry at Boromir’s death in Fellowship of the Ring movie.

@KassMiass This is the tragedy of Russia. A culture capable of such incredible beauty (Tchaikovsky) epic scale ( Tolstoy) or the deep understanding of humanity (Dostoyevsky) now ripped apart by Putin and his brutality

all of these Russia bashers have obviously never read Dostoevsky or Tolstoy or watched the Bolshoi Ballet and know nothing about its nearly two millennia history. “Portrait of an Unknown Woman” (1883) by Ivan Kramskoy

@hoyer_kat This is what fascinated me when I visited the DDR museum: the lives most people led was very different to the portrayals we see in modern German films of the period.

At Merkel's book launch in London tonight, she said she'd lived a full life in the GDR with good and bad sides despite the dictatorship. That got applause. Good to see views are shifting. Someone even whooped enthusiastically- must have been at least 3 East Germans in the room 😄

22 series of strictly and there’s been 1 black woman win (and that was 17 years ago) there’s a serious pattern of black women being judged harshly and torn down by the audience that happens almost every year, they have to continuously fight for their spot in dance + #strictly

Are schools wrong to close when it snows? It's the third day of snow warnings across large parts of the UK and hundreds of schools are once again shut due to dangerous conditions or a lack of heating. Everyone else still has to go to work so should schools stay open too?

I’m trying to follow the great farming debate but, as an economics illiterate, I’m baffled. If a farm has a nominal value of, say, £3m but generates an income of only c. £40k, how can it really be worth that much? This is not, bt dubs, a loaded question. I’m interested.

@malmesburyman @MrJamesMay @CarolNolan1980 Where are you living. The cost of renting isn’t lower than buying round here. It’s just that people can afford the rent on a monthly basis ( some of them ) but not the capital outlay.

When we get through this we need to address the electoral college. This election should never have been close and it only is because of this archaic and anti-democratic system.
