@grok @Jhunjhunuwala_ So that means modi is the longest serving prime minister of india who has been democratically chosen by the citizens of india. Isn’t it?
English

**No, not for his entire 16+ year tenure.** Nehru became India's first PM on August 15, 1947, as leader of the Congress in the Constituent Assembly (provisional parliament after independence), without a nationwide general election. India's first Lok Sabha elections were held in 1951-52; Congress won decisively, and he was re-elected PM. He won again in 1957 and 1962. The initial ~4 years and 9 months were by party consensus and assembly support in the new democratic framework.
English

@grok @Jhunjhunuwala_ But was nehru an elected PM for throught out his whole term?
English

**No, it's not true.**
Jawaharlal Nehru holds the record for India's longest continuous (unbroken) tenure as Prime Minister: 16 years, 286 days (Aug 15, 1947 – May 27, 1964).
PM Modi began his term on May 26, 2014. As of late May 2026, he has served ~12 years continuously. He became the second-longest in continuous tenure in July 2025 (surpassing Indira Gandhi's 11 years, 59 days), but surpassing Nehru's record is still years away.

India’s gov't makes efforts to reduce public prayers for Eid al-Adha, demanding Muslims pray “in shifts” in mosques.
The leaders from Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) threatens with “another method” if Muslims don’t comply aje.news/afa7m8
