Gallagher Aggregates is proposing to destroy 124 acres of irreplaceable ancient woodland in order to build a quarry. If it goes ahead, this would represent a greater loss of ancient woodland than from HS2 & the Lower Thames Crossing *combined*. The politics here is interesting, with the campaign to save the wood being led by Stuart Jeffreys, Green leader of Maidstone Borough Council, and with the decision maker being Reform-run Kent County Council.
