The Trump administration’s focus on “highly enriched uranium” is incorrect.
Uranium enrichment is not linear:
3.67% enriched uranium gets you 70% of the way to weapons-grade.
20% gets you about 90% there.
60% gets you about 96% there.
Iran has substantial quantities of enriched material at all these levels.
Any deal that leaves Iran with any enriched uranium is a bad deal. Iran can easily enrich its remaining material to weapons-grade.
Any deal that leaves its nuclear facilities intact is a bad deal. Iran can easily use these facilities for further enrichment and weaponization.
If these are the contours of a new Iran deal, it may end up even worse than the JCPOA. Let’s hope that’s not where this is heading after everything that has been accomplished in the past year.

100% enrichment STILL doesn't kill Americans. 100% enrichment and 100% bomb making capabilities still doesn't kill Americans. They would have to have 100% enrichment, 100% bomb making capabilities, and 100% missile delivery system. They weren't even close.
Not to mention the 12 hours it would take for that missile to travel here, giving us PLENTY of time to neutralize it and send 50 of them back at Iran.
This is the stupidest 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon argument about how "imminent" the threat Iran poses.

I fear that all who care about the original war goals (no nuclear program or enrichment whatsoever, severe limitations on missiles, no support for proxies) and all who care about the Iranian people are going to be very disappointed. Trump is listening to the wrong people right now. The war started off with the right goals and now he seems to have lost his way. A deal that leaves Iran with any nuclear ability and with its missile program intact is a total failure. At least we didn't spend a fortune and make ridiculous threats getting to the JCPOA--which of course only strengthened Iran. He should have listened to the Israelis who do not lack courage and would have tried to bring down the Regime--the only real solution.
Trump seems to want to want to lose this war and bully the Cubans instead.
