For teams will to offer, they won’t waste time with the Sabres who will match. They will offer on Dorofeyev who is arguably more valuable than Benson and is on a team in real cap trouble

Seems like an easy choice for some of these teams to offer sheet Benson, but a lot of NHL GMs aren’t bold enough

This isn’t a shot at Joe to be clear. Just a general statement. I remember the offer sheet boogey man coming for Bo Byram last summer. And then it didn’t. I will not give any concern to offer sheet stuff until it happens more than once every 5 years.

@boomertang @CMDeDominicis Sabres aren’t moving Benson for multiple lottery picks though. It’s why the offensive team can offer a ridiculous offer sheet

Well I guess one of them was on the offensive with offer sheets but he’s currently in the Sabres organization

My point is: NHL GMs are never on the offensive with offer sheets (sending them out knowing the other team will sign them and putting the signing team in a worse spot)
This is also comes with the disclaimer that I’m assuming they sign Tuch here (they likely won’t)

@CMDeDominicis @Sabremetrix 9 mil is crazy for 13 goals and 40+ pts, more logically give him a prove deal, yes playoff Benson was different from regular season but would guess somewhere in the middle is the norm.

This is such an overly complex draft lottery format for no reason. I hope the NHL never does anything like this

@Sabremetrix @23sabres I don't know, Krebs was the 16th pick, Mrtka the 9th pick. Hague had a good D+1, but I doubt that closes the gap to a recent 9OA. In 21, Wheeler had Krebs as the 26th best NHL affiliated prospect. In 26, Mrtka was 22nd. You can nitpick the source, but it's close either way IMO.

@23sabres @Sabremetrix I’ve already accepted if they swing a big deal it’ll include one of Ostlund/Kulich/Konsta, but to act like that deal is some of the swill Rangers fans were coming up with for Jack is overcompensation to not be like them
