We need more OTs in virtual schools, because occupation is crucial for these children labelled LAC. I’m tired of meetings centred around “challenging” behaviours. Little John is more than LAC, he’s a keyboard player, a swimmer, a footballer, he’s a friend, a brother…#OTWeek2023

I use my core skills of activity analysis to understand how the sensory environment impacts on a child’s sense of safety, and what unique sensory strategies are most helpful for a child who is frequently on high alert/flooded by the environment

to learn in a classroom (occupation) a child needs to feel safe and connected, and that they belong. My role in virtual school might look like I’m rolling about the floor playing snail races, but what I’m actually doing is learning what a child needs to feel safe and regulated

I work for a virtual school. Today I visited a child out of area and took him a sensory tent & weighted blanket. I rolled him up like a hot dog, squashed him with a gym ball and then had a snail race across the floor on our tummies. Teachers were like “This is OT?” 🤨 #OTWeek23

Thank you @theRCOT for the Life Hacks campaign, I actually like it! 😊 I remember when RCOT did next to nothing on socials for the publicity of the profession. The feedback then was you’re not doing enough, now you’re not doing it right, you’ll never please everyone 🤷‍♀️

@rosannasweeney @YoungMindsUK - Some children struggle to identify internal bodily signals (interoception) and therefore will not recognise the need to use the toilet until they REALLY need to go. Let children go to the toilet when their bodily cues tell them it’s time. - offer quiet spaces at break times

What advice would you give to a parent whose child is anxious about going to school? Your advice could really help someone.

In response to this tragic event, Sheffield Talking Therapies are hosting a number of dedicated psychology sessions on Thursday 2 November, 7pm – 8pm and Friday 10am – 10:45am for anyone who has been affected.

I feel deeply moved by the outpouring of love from the hockey community and everybody rallying together to support. I want to help where I can, I know there will be a lot of children under 13 struggling and little services to support in South Yorkshire…

Deeply shocked and saddened reading about the tragic accident in Sheffield last night. I can’t imagine the pain and trauma for all involved. As a Mum, hockey fan and a children’s therapist I keep thinking about the children present who witnessed such a horrific tragedy 😔 #AJ47
