Spent a wonderful evening at an Iftar reunion with friends who studied at universities in Uganda. It was special to reconnect with colleagues and long-time friends after many years. I’m proud to have been among the founding members of the first Somaliland Students Association in Uganda in 2008 and to have served as its second chair. A beautiful night of shared stories, laughter, and sweet memories.

It was an honor to attend the official launch of the Horn and Red Sea Security Forum under the @ISIR_INSTITUTE . This timely initiative comes as geopolitical tensions and strategic competition across the Horn of Africa and Red Sea corridor continue to intensify, making dialogue and cooperation more essential than ever. Somaliland, as a consistent contributor to regional peace and stability, must remain actively engaged in shaping discussions and narratives that influence our region’s future. Platforms like this are vital to encourage collaboration, informed policy debate, and forward-looking solutions across security, economic, and development sectors. Congratulations to ISIR Institute for establishing this important forum, which will bring together regional and international participants annually to strengthen cooperation and shared understanding.

Law 3: Conceal Your Intentions (48 Laws of Power) Meaning: Don’t reveal your real plans or goals too early. Why: If people know what you want, they can block you, compete with you, or use it against you. How it works: You keep your real purpose hidden by using vague words, distraction, or misdirection. Result: Others stay uncertain, and you gain control and advantage.

2026 will be a year of profound change. The global order will not remain the same, and long-standing status quos will increasingly give way to reality. Somaliland’s recognition marks a decisive turning point one that establishes a new political reality that must be acknowledged and engaged with. After three decades, the existing Somali framework is no longer viable. The call for a new path is not a matter of choice, but of necessity.

Strategic Assessments: South Sudan Set to Become the Second Country to Recognise Somaliland South Sudan is reportedly on the verge of formally recognizing Somaliland, in a move that would make it the second country to do so. According to informed sources, Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of South Sudan, is prepared to announce recognition within the coming hours. The decision comes as South Sudan, itself a relatively young state, moves to support Somaliland’s long-standing bid for international recognition. Reports indicate that Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi and President Salva Kiir are expected to hold a direct live call to coordinate and publicly mark the announcement, signaling a potentially significant diplomatic breakthrough for Somaliland on the international stage.

It is a great honor and deep joy to witness the celebration of Somaliland’s recognition at the Presidential Palace. I was among the first to meet President Cirro at his office this afternoon, just minutes after the historic news was announced. It was an unforgettable moment — a landmark milestone after 34 years of resilience, state-building, and perseverance. The long-awaited recognition has finally arrived, and history has been made.

Dear Prime Minister @netanyahu 🇮🇱 On behalf of the people of the Republic of Somaliland, we thank you for the heroic decision your government has taken to re-recognize the will of the Somaliland people. This milestone remained long overdue for the past 34 years. This is a great milestone of historic proportions. Your courageous leadership has made Israel the first nation to recognize Somaliland's rightful place among the family of nations since our independence was lost in 1960. The people of Somaliland - our elders, youth, women, scholars, and business leaders - have shown extraordinary resilience in defending our right to self-determination for the past three decades. Today, that patience and perseverance have been rewarded - thanks to Israel. Somaliland pledges to be a nation that contributes only peace, stability, and constructive partnership to the international community. We will stand as a beacon of democracy and security in the Horn of Africa. We call upon the rest of the international community, including the USA, AU, EU, Arab League, Islamic countries, and our Horn of African neighborly states to follow suit. This achievement honors the vision of all our presidents - from Abdirrahman Tuur to our current President Abdirahman Cirro - who collectively never gave up on the dream of re-recognition. Prime Minister @netanyahu, your decision will be remembered in history as a moment when justice prevailed over politics, and when the will of a peaceful people was finally acknowledged. From the bottom of our hearts, the 6 million people of Somaliland extend our deepest gratitude to Israel and its leadership. This partnership between Israel and Somaliland represents a new chapter in Middle East-Africa relations, built on shared democratic values and commitment to peace.
