We all know summer means keeping the kids busy and getting their wiggles out. Tomorrow is National Wiggle Your Toes Day. Plan a hike or walk where you can practice safety habits and give those wiggles an outlet. Afterward, do a little toe wiggling to celebrate.

Safety Tip: If your child’s helmet leans forward, adjust the rear straps. If it tilts backward, tighten the front straps. A proper fit means their vision is not obstructed and their helmet is snug.

When children are learning to ride their bikes, just like proper shoes and attire, make sure that a helmet is an automatic part of getting ready to ride. How old was your child when they learned to ride without training wheels? What methods worked best for your child?

DYK: A name for a crossing guard is lollipop? The shape of the sign they hold gives them the nickname because it resembles a lollipop. Today is #NationalLollipopDay, and although it’s celebrating the candy, Here's a shout out to all the crossing guards for keeping kids safe.

Learning a new skill creates an opportunity for children to gain self-confidence and problem-solving skills. This summer, encourage your kids to learn a new active skill they normally wouldn’t consider like hula hooping, jump roping or creating different hopscotch obstacles.

Get your kids involved and see what ideas they can come up with to stay active during the summer. During lunch or dinner, start a conversation with them and brainstorm ideas to stay active together. It will give them something to look forward to and engage their imagination.

Using art is a great way to keep your kids from getting into a slump while practicing physical distancing. Grab some sidewalk chalk and walk with them to their friend’s house or a family member’s house and draw a picture for encouragement for a kind, creative way to stay active.

A picnic is a great way to get the kids out. July is National Picnic Month and it’s a good excuse to take a walk to a nearby park. Practice and teach safe walking tips on the way.
