France Desperate To Rebrand Itself In Africa On May 11, 2026, French President Emmanuel Macron co-chaired the “Africa Forward Summit” 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya, alongside Kenyan President William Ruto. The summit marketed itself as a “paradigm shift” in Africa-France relations, aimed at building “equitable”, “mutually respectful” partnerships between the two geopolitical entities. On May 13, 2026, Macron visited Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, to hold talks with the country’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, African Union (AU) Chairman Mahamoud Ali Youssouf and United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG) Antonio Guterres. The talks primarily focused on calls for Africa to have a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, and plans by France to host a conference at the end of 2026 aimed at increasing the West’s “contributions” to the AU’s peace efforts. To the naive eye, it would seem that France has developed a sudden swell of affection for Africa. But the country’s continued financing of t£rror on the continent after being kicked out of its 3 wealthiest West African colonies, and its long history of sabotaging African progress, point to a more sinister reality. Having lost its influence in West Africa, France is desperately trying to rebrand its grotesque image across the rest of the continent, by banking on the geopolitical and historical illiteracy of many of the continent’s youth, and the spinelessness of its leaders.
