Pilgrims today no longer have to endure the extreme hardships that our forefathers once faced. Saudi Arabia has named this Hajj the “Digital Hajj.” Upon arrival in Mina at 10 PM, pilgrims are provided with clean white sheets to spread on the ground. They are required to stay there until Fajr the next morning. Each pilgrim is allocated a space barely the size of a grave. The only difference is that in a grave the ground is hard, with no pillow and no air conditioning. Yet in this moment, all the pilgrims are dressed in two pieces of Ihram, fully engaged in the worship of Allah. Some are resting, exhausted from the journey, while others remain absorbed in the remembrance of Allah. The restrictions of Ihram are very strict even a small mistake can make a compensatory sacrifice (dam) obligatory. Here, there is no distinction between the rich and the poor. Everyone lies on the ground side by side. Seeing this scene, it is said that Allah asks the angels, “Tell Me, why have these people gathered here?” The angels reply, “O Most Generous Lord, You know better than us. They have all gathered here only to please You.” Then Allah, with a smile, says to the angels, “Bear witness that I am pleased with all of them.” May Allah be pleased with us all. Ameen

It is during this Hajj period that I often desire to be a wealthy Muslim man. How sweet will it be if I can afford Hajj for myself and be able to sponsor 10 other Muslims, buy rams for 30 poor Muslims, and feed 50 fasting Muslims on the day of Arafat? Indeed, I can feel the pain of the poor companions of the Prophet who said:" O Messenger of Allah, the rich have taken all the rewards...."( Sahih Muslim 1006)

DHUL HIJJA 01: A DAY IN HISTORY Did you know that on the first day of Dhul Hijjah in the second year of the Hijra, a union took place that would shape the spiritual map of the world? This was the day Ali ibn Abi Talib and Fatima, the daughter of the Prophet (peace be upon him), were married. Al-Muhib al-Tabari, in his work Dhakha'ir al-Uqba, mentioned that this was a marriage decreed in the heavens before it happened on earth. If we look at the records in Al-Isabah fi Tamyiz al-Sahabah by Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani, we will see the reality of how they started. It was not about gold or status. For Ali, he had to sell his shield, known as Al-Hutamiya, to get the few dirhams needed for a dowry. Ibn Hajar recorded that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used that money to buy essentials for their room, such as a leather cushion filled with palm fiber and two jars of water. The historian Al-Tabari, in his Tarikh, also noted the timing of this event, placing it at the very start of this holy month. It is a lesson for us today. It shows that the most blessed house in history was built on something deeper than what we usually chase. From this one day, we got the lineage of the Prophet through Hasan and Husayn, and a legacy of leadership and patience that still guides the Ummah. We are starting these ten days by remembering a family that chose the hereafter over the world. That is a foundation worth thinking and talking about. May the Almighty accept our Ibadah 🙏
