🚨 DEVELOPING: A new leak claims Xbox Project Helix will include a built-in disc drive, marking a major shift from earlier rumors. If true, Xbox could become the only next-gen console with native physical media support, while PlayStation is still rumored to move forward without a built-in disc drive. Nothing is official yet—treat this as a rumor until Microsoft confirms the hardware. 👀 #Xbox #ProjectHelix #PlayStation #GamingNews

GunForce II was still in development when the company ran into financial trouble, so the game was never fully polished. As a result, there’s a noticeable difference in quality between the early and later stages. When the company went bankrupt, most of the core developers moved to SNK, where they went on to create Metal Slug. That’s why playing GunForce II feels so much like playing Metal Slug. Many of the series’ signature elements were already there—an impressive variety of weapons and vehicles, gorgeous pixel art, and spectacular large-scale boss battles. Without GunForce II, it’s hard to imagine Metal Slug becoming the legendary game it is today. Like its predecessor, GunForce II was never ported to home consoles and wasn’t widely distributed in arcades, so it remained relatively unknown for many years. Fortunately, it was finally re-released a few years ago as part of the Irem Collection, giving this hidden gem the recognition it deserved.

Hi Sandy, I hope you’re well. I have appreciated the recent discussions. I do not agree with your framing. Regarding piracy, DOOM is a complicated example because shareware was the model. DOOM’s first episode was designed to be freely copied, passed around, uploaded, installed, and played. That enormous unpaid audience was not the same thing as piracy. It was part of how DOOM reached the world. By the mid-90s, DOOM had something like 20 million shareware installs and more than 2 million paid copies sold. Those 20 million people were not “pirates” by default. A huge number of them were playing the free episode exactly as intended. That doesn’t excuse people pirating the registered game. However, it’s important not to collapse legal shareware distribution, unpaid reach, and actual piracy into one number. I also don’t think piracy is what “gutted” id - id is still around and still making games. Piracy may have cost money, but it wasn’t the reason Quake was hard or why people eventually went different ways. So yes: pay developers. Buy the games you love. Support the people who make them. But history is messier than “pirates killed the companies.” Sometimes the same free distribution that looked like lost sales was also the thing that made the game impossible to ignore.

F*ck pirates, as a man who designed video games from 1988 through 2012. 70-90% of Doom's players pirated it. If not for that we would literally have had so much more for our workspace and upcoming projects - Quake may not have gutted id Software. At least 50% of Age of Empires was pirated which helped lead to our MicroSoft buyout and eventual demise. And your excuses of "we have to try before we buy" are complete bullsh*t. Doom let you play a full 9 levels free. Age of Empires let you play a battle free to see how it worked. We bent over backwards to ensure you'd know what you were getting into. Damn pirates are the guys who killed game companies. like Atari, Amiga, Cinemaware, 3D Realms (Duke Nukem!) And if you're NOT a pirate, I salute you. You are a gentleman and if you ever see me at a convention, walk up and say, "Hey Sandy, I never pirated a game." and I'll buy you a drink.

The EU has officially banned large companies from destroying unsold clothes, shoes, and clothing accessories. Instead of throwing them away, companies must find other solutions, such as reselling, repairing, reusing, or donating them. The new rules will take effect on July 19, 2026 for large companies. Medium-sized businesses have until 2030 to comply, while small and micro businesses are exempt.

@SandyofCthulhu Name the companies that have been ruined by piracy. It's a great idea to list two games to play and include the cover image of an unlisted game.

I developed video games for 25 years. I hate piracy with every fiber of my being. I saw companies I loved and men I admired completely ruined by pirates. I detest every single excuse and facile lie used to justify piracy. However, if you are using an emulator to play a game that you CANNOT PLAY OTHERWISE, then even I do not count it as piracy. Go forth and play Panzer Dragoon and House of the Dead with Sandy's blessing, should you need it.

@pr4m0d @Pirat_Nation One TB??? Ahahah, you would be forced to completely wipe your PS5 internal disk or buy another just for this game. Crazy stuff. They literally just could have put the initial menu on the disk and still grant licence transfer at least.

Yea, but people keep saying they want a physical release, but they won't state how it could be done? It's a large open world game with dynamic content and an online component/ store. How would it even work in an offline form? Not to mention the size of the game nears 1TB, you would have to segment the world into distinct parts, gate sections and swap discs when you get to different places. That, or just use the disc as an installer and install the base game... but then you have to download most of the game anyway? What is the point of this? It seems like just a bad experience. It is better to just download everything in the first place. This way it is ready to go in a seamless experience from the beginning.

Two retailers that specialize in physical video games have announced they will not sell Grand Theft Auto VI when it launches because the boxed version will contain only a download code instead of a game disc. Video Games Plus (VGP), which has been in business for nearly 40 years, has a longstanding policy against selling boxed games that do not include physical media. The company explained: “For nearly 40 years, VGP has been committed to supporting physical media and preserving the value of physical game ownership. Our company policy is that we do not carry physical products for video game consoles that contain only a digital download code. The physical release of Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be a code-in-box product. As a result, VGP will not be offering it for sale.” VGP added that it would gladly stock the game if Rockstar releases a version that includes an actual disc in the future. Loot Box Gaming (LBG) has taken a similar position. The retailer, which was founded out of a passion for physical game preservation, said: “When we started LBG, it was out of a love for our favorite form of media, gaming, as well as the preservation of said media. If a product can’t honor the people who pay their hard-earned money to purchase it, then we have no business trying to sell it to our customers.” LBG also stated that it hopes Grand Theft Auto VI is a huge success, but it will not compromise its principles regarding physical game ownership.

> be GTA 6 > waited for 13 years > finally get a price: $80 for standard > $100 if you want the Ultimate Edition > no Collector's Edition exists at any price > the physical box has no disc inside > just a download code on a slip of paper > Rockstar calls the launch a "single player experience" > pre-orders open June 25 at midnight local time > release locked for November 19 > still the most expensive game ever made to develop > people pre-ordering anyway, servers about to melt Rockstar didn't build a deluxe edition. They built the base game to feel like it's missing something.
BuBBliK@k1rallik

🚨 GTA 6 WILL COST $80 - OFFICIAL Rockstar just confirmed it. Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19 at $79.99, with the Ultimate Edition at $99.99. Pre-orders open June 25 at midnight local time. - The standard edition is $79.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. - The Ultimate Edition is $99.99 and threads exclusive content across every chapter of Jason and Lucia's story. - There is no disc - the physical version is just a download code in a box. - There is no Collector's Edition - only two tiers exist. Nintendo opened the door to $80 games. Rockstar just kicked it down for everyone.
