"The speech that President Tinubu gave in Kigali was epic. The last time we had an African leader speak like that and it resonated with the entire continent was perhaps maybe in the 70s." — Political Scientist, Obafemi George

Overnight, Nigeria and the United States recorded a significant example of effective collaboration in the fight against terrorism. Our determined Nigerian Armed Forces, working closely with the Armed Forces of the United States, conducted a daring joint operation that dealt a heavy blow to the ranks of the Islamic State. Early assessments confirm the elimination of the wanted IS senior leader, Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki, also known as Abu-Mainok, along with several of his lieutenants, during a strike on his compound in the Lake Chad Basin Nigeria appreciates this partnership with the United States in advancing our shared security objectives. I extend my sincere gratitude to President Trump for his leadership and unwavering support in this effort. I commend the personnel involved on both sides for their professionalism and courage, and I look forward to more decisive strikes against all terrorist enclaves across the nation. President Tinubu’s participation at the Africa CEO Forum went beyond appearances, it was a strong engagement across key sectors including energy, infrastructure, agriculture, fintech, manufacturing and the digital economy, all centered on attracting investment and creating opportunities for Nigeria. Through strategic discussions and high-level engagements, Nigeria boldly projected its vision for economic growth and its place in shaping Africa’s future. Here are some of the major highlights from the President’s engagements at the Africa CEO Forum. On AFCTA: "Uh, we need to put our money where our mouth is and develop a relationship. Luckily, we have, you know, our African Trade Agreement that should not be left on the drawing board, should be activated properly. Regional collaboration and effective utilization of our resources. Not working in silos, but in collaboration with one another, using what we have. To me, I believe in African first, because I've started Nigerian first. And all resources today, we don't want scavengers. We don't want extractors. We want people to add value. If you're an investor, we will encourage you to add value to what we have as a nation before that resource..."

I am honoured to participate in the 2026 edition of the ID4Africa Conference and Annual General Meeting with the theme, “Digital Identity: From DPI to Digital Public Ecosystems”, currently taking place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. As a panellist during the session on “Enabling Policies for Cross-Border Interoperability”, I emphasised the urgent need for African countries to align legal, technical, and institutional frameworks to enable seamless and trusted cross-border data flows across the continent, highlighting three critical pillars necessary for progress: harmonised data protection laws, independent and effective Data Protection Authorities, and shared technical standards for interoperability. Without compatible infrastructure and enforceable legal frameworks, Africa’s digital transformation potential will remain constrained by fragmentation among authorities and systems. Data has become a critical infrastructure for the success of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and no nation can achieve data excellence in isolation. Achieving interoperability across Africa requires collective responsibility, strategic collaboration, and a careful balance between national sovereignty and regional efficiency. I want to commend ID4Africa for sustaining this important platform that brings together governments, development partners, industry leaders, and civil society stakeholders committed to advancing Africa’s digital identity ecosystem. Nigeria is strongly represented at the conference by distinguished officials, including the Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), who is also Nigeria’s Ambassador to ID4Africa, Engineer Abisoye Coker-Odusote; the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone (GBB), Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju; as well as representatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser, National Population Commission, and the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

President Tinubu just owned the stage in Kigali... He defended Nigeria’s reforms with facts and pushed for a united, self-reliant Africa. Calm, confident, and full of substance. Nigeria is lucky to have a reformer like this representing us globally.🥂

@Letter_to_Jack If Seyi Makinde is running with Atiku then it is a bigger problem for President Tinubu in Oyo state, considering Atiku had over 180k in the last elections. With Seyi as Presidential Candidates, its a split vote for the three of them, no landslide victory for anyone. PBAT will win

Questions: —Will Governor Seyi Makinde be able to carry over his gubernatorial vote-wave to a Presidential election movement? —What does this do to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s expected votes in Oyo State in the 2027 elections? Would it impact it or will it be insignificant? —How does this affect the tally of the candidates altogether? —From a centralized view, Gov Seyi Makinde’s decision today is an advantage to which specific candidate in the Presidential elections race?
