Per RoCo Sheriff's office: Sarah Smith was charged w 2nd-degree murder for the Oct '19 death of her grandmother, Peggy Austin. She confessed this month to pushing the 87-year-old down a flight of stairs. She also faces embezzlement charges.

Per @SalisburyNCPD a 16 yr old died today after a single vehicle collision in the 1800 block of Jake Alexander Blvd. Alex Garcia, 19, was driving a '14 Mercedes SUV headed northbound towards Statesville Blvd. He lost control, left the roadway, and collided into a tree.

Per Rowan Sheriff's Office: A detention officer headed home this morning was struck from behind by a pickup on I-85 southbound at Brookshire Freeway. Officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Is currently in ICU. Name withheld for now. More released later.
