Received an offer from an AI scale-up with a significant package bump, a very interesting role and a promising growth trajectory. But I then started to feel truly sad and heavy at the idea of leaving Shopify. Not ready for that. I still have too much to give and receive here.

@smlpth On a personal project ? I'm asking if your employer allows the use of cursor

Spent 30 minutes with Cursor Composer in Agent mode with Sonnet to try to fix a complex bug (with tests passing locally but failing in the CI/CD). Gave up and detailed my issue to o1-preview, which gave me a proper fix straight off the bat.

@smlpth Maybe it's because you've got a cool job. I'm really into what I'm working on now, but my old job was a total drag. I was so happy to clock out every day.

I don't like the expression work-life balance since my work is a meaningful part of my life. I don't live for my evenings, weekends, vacations and retirement. And I feel sad for those who feel bad on Monday morning and excited on Friday evening, and can't wait to "escape"

Had this discussion with my wife to avoid lifestyle creep (i.e. always spending more as you earn more): whenever I get a promotion, all the gain should be allocated to RSUs/stocks and the base should remain the same. This way, I don't get more cash to spend.

Asking GPT to quickly tell me how much I owe my cleaning lady for the month just by throwing a screenshot. It's using Python both to load the image for OCR and to do the quick math (since it knows that it sucks at math).

إذا كانو القواعد الأخلاقية ديما عندهم استثناءات (بحال مثلا الكذب خايب لكن هانية تكذب باش تنقذ حياة إنسان) ، واش كاين شي فائدة اننا نخليوهم جزء من البوصلة الأخلاقية ديالنا و نعتمدو عليهم من الأصل؟ حيث إذا كانت شي قاعدة ما كتطبقش في جميع الحالات، فما يمكن إلا أنه نتسألو واش هاد القاعدة هي ضرورية أو صالحة أصلا.

This is how AI helped me lose 10 kg in 7 weeks. This year I gained a lot of weight, partly due to the grief of losing my father. For years my weight was stable, but by July I hit 93 kg (205 lbs). Coding late at night and snacking without control started to affect me. I wanted to lose weight but still enjoy the food I love. So, I turned to Claude Sonnet 3.5. I fed it menus from restaurants close to my house where I usually order or dine in, my usual recipes, and premade meals I get from Target, all including calorie information and ingredients. Claude created a nutrition plan just for me, with meals I like and balanced nutrients. Seven weeks of following it religiously + home workouts = 10 kg (22 lbs) gone! From 93 kg to 83 kg. Still can't believe AI helped me lose weight while eating what I love.

I asked OpenAI new model o1-preview to perform a detailed mathematical and economic analysis of Trump and Kamala Harris's tax plans, including GDP modeling, revenue and deficit projections, and income inequality metrics. It processed economic indicators, tax policy impacts, and long-term growth effects. The output revealed that neither plan is perfect, but Trump’s plan shows slightly better economic outcomes.

@smlpth I'm sometimes using Claude to assist me in my coding sessions and it's really amazing compared to ChatGpt. By the way there's an application for Android since yesterday

GPT vs Claude is a perfect example of how being the first can often be better than being the best. I don't know anyone apart from tech folks who ever mentioned Claude to me, even though it's better than GPT. For most people now: LLM = GPT like Search = Google.
