China doesn’t “own” #Jamaica and there’s no “debt trap”: China is funding infrastructure projects across much of Latin America and the #Caribbean, from ports and railways to roads and energy links. Some are already completed, many others are planned or under construction. These projects are often tied to trade routes and resource flows, and form part of China’s broader global investment strategy. Over the past two decades, China has emerged as a significant partner for Jamaica, with cumulative investments, loans, and project commitments estimated at around US$2–6 billion. This includes equity FDI (roughly US$1–2 billion), major infrastructure like highways, ports, and housing built by Chinese firms, plus bauxite and urban development projects. Chinese policy bank loans (mainly Exim Bank) have funded key infrastructure, with cumulative commitments near US$2.1 billion since the mid-2000s. However, Jamaica has repaid aggressively with no major new loans since 2017. Chinese debt now accounts for just 3.9–4.5% of Jamaica’s total public debt (approximately J$2.2 trillion or US$14 billion). Officials, including former Finance Minister Nigel Clarke, have noted that 90% of the outstanding Chinese portfolio is on track for repayment within 10 years, at low fixed interest rates of 2–3%. This modest share underscores that the bulk of Jamaica’s debt is domestic and multilateral. The relationship focuses on completed projects and trade rather than new borrowing, helping Jamaica maintain fiscal discipline while benefiting from Chinese-built infrastructure.

I once ignored a call from my mom because I was “too tired.” Nothing serious. I just didn’t feel like talking. She called again. I ignored it again. Later that night, I saw her message: “Just wanted to hear your voice.” That hit me. I called back immediately. She picked up on the first ring… like she’d been waiting. We talked for 2 minutes. Nothing deep. Nothing urgent. But before hanging up, she said: “Thank you, I feel better now.” Till today, I still wonder… What if I didn’t call back? Now, I don’t ignore those small moments anymore. Because sometimes, to someone else, It’s not a small moment at all. When last did you call someone who cares about you? 👇

That's reparing the foundation with marl fill and steel work as we begin shaping the concrete structure of this modern, two-storey facility. Despite early challenges with the passing of the hurricane, and the very rocky terrain,we're well on our way to completion early next year.

It’s a happy Monday for me 🇯🇲 Grateful to live in a country where I can speak freely (may we never take that for granted.) Saw the video with the Prof and had to reflect. When you join a political movement, shouldn’t you first understand what it stands for? Years ago, I attended a meeting in Claremont - speaker after speaker, just attacks, no policy 😕 Then came the line from Chairman for Life that settled it for me: once you’re a comrade, you support the party. Period. That’s when I knew it wasn’t for me. Any movement that cannot accommodate respectful dissent is not built to last and will die a natural death. I will add too, any movement that doesn't embrace youth and groom them to succeed will also die a natural death.

@NationwideRadio Respectfully, KC Champagnie needs to let Ms. Walter rest in peace. She’s not here to defend herself, and her murderer has pleaded guilty, been sentenced, and is serving time. No need for this at this time.

The Government has revised the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) on non-alcoholic sweetened beverages, shifting from a volume-based system to one based on sugar content, at a rate of $0.22 per gram of added sugar. The new approach is intended to more directly target sugar consumption and align taxation with public health objectives. Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Hon. Fayval Williams, made the disclosure, noting that implementation has been deferred to May 1, 2026.
