The report first came in 2022 in the form of a policy brief that outlined how fossil fuels harm health throughout both the industrial and human life cycle.  While air pollution is often recognized as a consequence of fossil fuel use, there are considerable health impacts that remain less discussed. In this report, the entire industrial life cycle of fossil fuels, from extraction to waste, and the health harms at each stage are mapped. The chemicals emitted during the fossil fuel life cycle persist in the environment and can remain for decades, even after industrial activity has ceased. By their very nature, these chemicals have the potential to harm ecology, the environment, and people for generations to come. Shifting from fossil fuels toward health-focused, energy efficient and just renewable energy systems is economically advantageous, ethically necessary, an essential for global health and climate resilience. This transition can not only mitigate harm but also create transformative change—protecting the most vulnerable and building a healthier, more equitable future for generations to come.
