@SamDanbySALT We have a weekly communication group @Ward31MRI @LauraCairnsSLT @MriSlt. The group caters for a wide crowd of people with #aphasia, so we tend to practice total communication strategies using Words of the Week and similar resources. Would love to trial a swallowing group!

@SamDanbySALT @claudiadreads No not at all, they’re our Multi Professional Rehab Assistants - took me ages to work out people were referring to “MPRA’s” and not “emperors” 😂 We’re very lucky to have @natmc88 on our unit

@claudiadreads @SamDanbySALT On our unit we work closely with OT and our MPRA team to faciliate groups based on themes/projects - Breakfast Club, Gardening Club, Art Group, Eurovision Quiz etc.

@SamDanbySALT Hey, we have bi-weekly Tea and Chat groups within the rehab room at @BTHFT. We serve hot drinks (and biscuits!) and it's great enrichment for stroke patients without the pressure of it being therapy/assessed etc. Drop us a line if you'd like to know more😊

@e_poyner1 Thank you so much for all of the ideas! This is really helpful. I especially like the idea of doing something seasonal as it’s already such a tricky time of year for patients in hospital.

@SamDanbySALT Education groups, supported conv grps, using scenario test as a way to practice functional scenarios, singing groups, dysarthria strategy practice conversation groups, swallow exercise practice grps. I’m sure there’s loads more! (2/2)

@claudiadreads Thank you! I definitely love the idea of something functional. Our ward took part in the BISTRo study recently and I know this was a massive hit with the patients

@SamDanbySALT Consider project based therapy! Can you create something or organise something, something you might need on the ward? Breakfast group is always a winner, lots of communication, lots of swallowing.
