It’s his first main draw quarter, so nerves and definitely fatigue from 9 hours on the courts is will hinder his play, however, Darderi has been far from impressive this year and his inconsistencies have proven to be quite costly. Darderi hasn’t played consistent enough to be priced this wide here, especially in faster conditions.

After watching both opening matchups, one player was clearly more comfortable adapting/playing with the conditions. We backed JBM confidently against Watson and she came to play. Frech looked really rocky against Timofeeva and struggled with unforced errors/consistency. High winds again today, but should be dryer overall with temperatures in the 90s. Frech has a history of struggling physically on hotter days, so interesting to see how she looks. It hasn’t been a great start to the year for JBM, but this is an event where a lot of players struggle with consistency given the conditions, but JBM didn’t flinch in the opener. JBM mixes solid defense with power, a dangerously aggressive player when dialed in. This is a very tough matchup for any opponent who can’t establish rhythm.
