@burngold @Artemisfornow The "Block" function is real, I've just used it!

@FrankWAuthor Cadman Street Bridge, I think. About half a mile from the city-centre canal basin. A super view, and it hasn't changed much since the 1970's.

@mikster_derby @letterappsoc Replacing something so simple it can't fail with something that will never work properly. Progress!

DISASTER ON OUR MAIN ROAD! What on earth is an automatic system? 😠😡🤬📮✉️ #Derby #Derbyshire

Derby, England 🇬🇧 English

@ViaGelliaRedux @ViaGelliaRedux I remembered, the spring next to Twigg's is called a "Spaw", not Spa.
English

@ViaGelliaRedux I know what it means. ISTR a Chalybeate or -bite spring next to Twigg's at Matlock. Carved stone head-wall.

The traffic jams gave me a chance to see the state of the Bull's Head, closed for a few years now. @Metallica1957

@Metallica1957 @burngold @FrankWAuthor All good questions! Another "Oldie" is Scillonian 3 which must be well beyond it's design life. A replacement has now been ordered. Scillonian of course only worked 6 months of the year, leaving 6 months for TLC.

@SamSlideBuxton @burngold @FrankWAuthor If a person is over 40 & knackered, do we repair them (on the NHS)? If a ship is over 40, does it just die? Is it assumed that there not been a continuous upgrade of technology? Can it be refurbished, repurposed or just put on the recycle line. What’s best use of the Taxpayer £ ?

@burngold @FrankWAuthor Back to Falmouth, then the scrapyard?

@Pott_Shrigley_ Interesting to see the original course of Porter Brook. It's been straightened from the Victoria memorial to the road at Hunter's Bar.

These days you would just launch a drone, but back in the 1980s we didn't have drones (probably a good things seeing what else drones can do). If you wanted an aerial photograph like this one of Upperthorpe in Sheffield, you had to construct a brutalist concrete labyrinth (aka Kelvin Flats), climb to the very top, and take your photo. I like to think it was worth the climb.

@screwloose1980 Every building in that photo has been demolished?
English

@Metallica1957 @burngold @FrankWAuthor Argus is over 40 years old. And the Scillonian is over 50! Planned replacement? No, we're British, we don't do that! 🛠️
English

@burngold @SamSlideBuxton @FrankWAuthor Certainly a little long in the tooth. I wonder what the pros and cons of modernisation/refurbishment are?
