Created Housing First model -- based on the belief that housing is basic human right and services must be directed by the consumer.

Wonderful EU peer review gathering featuring housing first programs from Ireland 🇮🇪 Austria 🇦🇹 Belgium 🇧🇪 Slovenia 🇸🇮 Czechia 🇨🇿 Latvia 🇱🇻 and Croatia 🇭🇷 moderated by European Union 🇪🇺. An excellent knowledge exchange and inspiring to see that across programs there was both local adaptations and remarkable consistency and fidelity to the model. Many thanks to Ireland’s Housing Agency and the EU Commission! @HousingAgencyIE @HousingFirstHub @EU_Commission @HSE_SI

Housing First participants at 24 months report higher income, higher perceived housing quality, and access to family doctor. So, homelessness ends immediately and then the rest of life slowly and steadily improves!
Nick Falvo@nicholas_falvo

New study finds predictors of housing stability include: 1. Higher income 2. Higher perceived housing quality, and 3. Having a family physician tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.108… #HousingFirst #EndHomelessness

@Jayjay79757142 @ItsTheHousing @RachelHayes_33 Housing first is consumer driven snd offers a lot of choice. But participants must meet the terms of a standard lease and agree to regularly scheduled home visits. It’s not “everything is voluntary” - you’re a tenant like everyone else plus you get home visits.

AFRICAN & BLACK HISTORY
AFRICAN & BLACK HISTORY@AfricanArchives·
“Soooo you mean to tell me that someone down your ancestry line survived being chained to other human bodies for several months in the bottom of a disease-infested ship during the Middle Passage, lost their language, customs and traditions, picked up the English language as best they could while working free of charge from sunup to sundown as they watched babies sold from out of their arms and women raped by ruthless slave owners. Took names with no last names, no birth certificates, no heritage of any kind, braved the Underground Railroad, survived the Civil War to enter into sharecropping... Learned to read and write out of sheer will and determination, faced the burning crosses of the KKK, everted their eyes at the black bodies swinging from ropes hung on trees... Fought in World Wars as soldiers to return to America as boys, marched in Birmingham, hosed in Selma, jailed in Wilmington, assassinated in Memphis, segregated in the South, ghettoed in the North, ignored in history books, stereotyped in Hollywood... and in spite of it all someone in your family line endured every era to make sure you would get here and you receive one rejection, face one obstacle, lose one friend, get overlooked, and you want to quit? How dare you entertain the very thought of quitting. People, you will never know survived from generation to generation so you could succeed. Don’t you dare let them down! Give this to your young people who don’t know their history and want to get weak! It is NOT in our DNA to quit!”

Learned news ways to improve Coordinated Entry Systems today. But why improve how the funnel works? Why make more efficient a system that offers housing to a very few based on clinical needs? Why not throw out the funnel and offer housing as a basic human right?!

@AbeOudshoorn Abe, yes, U.S. has highest incarceration rate in the world; every single state incarcerates more people per capita than any independent other democracy. Texas has 10th highest rate. However, Houston’s reduction in homelessness is mostly the result of people getting housed.

CES - coordinated entry systems are much practiced and seldom studied. This presentation will introduce a little scientific evidence about practices that often act as Coordinated Exclusion Systems!
