@GyllKing If it really was corporate greed (it isn’t) then one manufacturer would price much lower and take all the business. They don’t, because they can’t. Because it’s milk and labour prices. Source: my 18 years supplying the food manufacturing industry.

Gyll King Post Skip Diplomacy
If a block of cheese really was £2 I feel fewer people would experience the need to steal it. Food prices have risen by 40% plus since 2020 - it is corporate greed that is out of control.

It’s illegal to work for companies like Deliveroo or Uber while your asylum claim is being processed. Under a future Conservative government, Britain will not reward those who break our rules the moment they arrive. We will deport those who work illegally while claiming asylum.

The Big Issue is now largely sold by Romanian gypsies who are not homeless. The RNLI is now largely devoted not to saving lives at sea but to ferrying random African men to Britain to become state-subsidised takeaway delivery drivers. Are there any other examples?

You're much more likely to become destitute or a displaced refugee than you are a millionaire, so stop dreaming about your personal gain and start acting in the interests of a fair and equal society, devoid of kings and tyrants.

@Empty_America Standard of living and quality of life are different. Your standard of living and quality of life don’t necessarily reduce in lockstep

I had a weird realization about saving money. Say you start saving 10K a year, you immediately reduce your quality of life by that amount. After 15 years of reduced QoL, you have 200K, which yields you 10K annually in interest. But even if you start spending your 10K in annual interest, you aren't in the "black" in QoL terms until year 30, since the first 15 years of interest just makes up for the quality of life you lost in the 15 years of saving.

I would guess that the top of the Laffer Curve for UK income tax is something like 45% Beyond that, the higher motivation people can go elsewhere and the lower motivation people will simply work less With the NI surcharge, we are currently at 47% for top rate taxpayers

@PaulRiver1A @MikeTho04795078 @LeoKearse Also. It’s “more cash” that matters when you need to pay for things, like public services. Do you want people to be taxed on loans as income? Would certainly kill off home ownership and business expansion, I suppose. Or is that the point?

@PaulRiver1A @MikeTho04795078 @LeoKearse Apologies. You said “higher” not “top”. Point still stands. Did you mean “rich people” in a vague and nebulous way? As in, “these are some things I have heard about that rich people do, and this doesn’t seem fair to me”

@PaulRiver1A @MikeTho04795078 @LeoKearse Cool. You are totally right there. Top marks. Totally irrelevant though isn’t it? You were talking about “top earners”. Earned income. Can’t do any of that with earned income can you? Have another go or no reply?

@PaulRiver1A @MikeTho04795078 @LeoKearse They pay the most. Top 1% pay 28% of all income tax (old data), top 10% pay 60%(recent data). If you earn 4x average earnings you pay 10x the tax (ish). Seems a lot, doesn’t it? How much do you think is “fair”?

The high tax brigade are lobbying Labour to impose another death tax. While now inheritance tax is applied at 40% they want to add capital gains tax - at rates up to 45% or more. This could mean over half of some estates being confiscated by the taxman. 1/3

Try and get a index-linked guaranteed £40k a year forever, without market risk, in the private sector. They will ask you for more than £1million. It’s this kind of financial illiteracy that you can get away with in the public sector because others pay for you.
