Mohammad DID not Encounter Gabriel in the Cave. It was a Demon! After Muhammad told his wife Khadijah he feared he had been visited by a demon in the Cave of Hira, she comforted him and took him to her Christian cousin Waraqa, a Christian scholar familiar with the Torah and Gospel. Waraqa listened to the account and declared it was the same angel (Gabriel/Namus) who had appeared to Moses — affirming that Muhammad was a true prophet. Far from urging him to lie or hide the truth out of fear people would call him crazy, both Khadijah and Waraqa affirmed his experience and became the first to believe he was a prophet. Why did Muhammad’s immediate response to “Jibreel” in the cave be pure fear and suspicion of possession — and why did he need humans to convince him it wasn’t a demon?
