Periyar stated: Muslims are following the ancient philosophies of the Dravidians. The Arabic word for Dravidian religion is Islam. When Brahmanism was imposed in this country, it was Mohammad Nabi who opposed it, by instilling the Dravidian religion's policies as Islam in the minds of the people.

Claiming that hinduism is foundationally an oppressive or intolerant religion is very funny, when you come from a religion that believes that other religions are inherently inferior to yours. A lot of what abrahamics say about hinduism is a projection of their own religion

The paradox of being a dark-skinned Brahmin The dark-skinned brahmins pass through Indian privilege inside a skin that Indians associated with another people* People of the same race and caste in India come in different colours. So there is a cruelty of perception but without the fellowship and solidarity of the dark-skinned* An unsung fact of Indian mediocrity… is that it is populated with very ‘presentable’ people. * My column in the Mint livemint.com/opinion/online…

There are so many periods of Indian history that are called critical. There are so many years labelled massive, that they are said to completely change human history. 1192, 1556, 1565, 1757, 1761, 1857 all could be contenders for the most crucial year in Indian history. However, amongst all these years, there is a decade that is forgotten or completely ignored. A decade in which, had some dominoes fallen together in the correct order, India would have been very very different. The decade between 1775 to 1785 The only decade, where we had the chance to kick the British out of India once and for all. It all started in the year 1772 actually, when one of the most capable Peshwa's in the Maratha Empire, Peshwa Madhavrao, died prematurely at the age of 27. Considering there was no democracy at that time, his brother Narayanrao, who was only 17 years old, was declared as the new Peshwa. This step angered a certain Raghunathrao, who was the younger son of Peshwa Bajirao (For all you ignorant youngsters, this was Ranveer Singh in Bajirao Mastani). Being the younger son, he never got his shot at big time and at the age of 40, he desperately wanted to be the Peshwa. So one fine day, he conspired with the Maratha imperial guards to have the young and innocent Narayanrao assassinated. Legend says that, while confronted by the assassins, he ran to Raghunathrao screaming, "Kaka, mala vaachva" or "Uncle, please save me". But the Uncle, in Bollywood Prem Chopra style had him killed. And he conferred himself as the new Peshwa. But there was a small twist in the tale. You see Madhavrao before dying had incepted a junior Madhavrao, who was born posthumously. Now this guy, suddenly became the true heir to the throne. Considering that there cannot be two Peshwas and given the fact that Raghunathrao was a little bit of an having gotten his kid nephew killed and all, the Maratha's decided to install the Junior Madhavrao as the Peshwa and expel Raghunathrao. And having tasted power, Raghunathrao obviously didn't want to give it up. So our man crossed the Bhor Ghat, Came to Bombay and sought the help of, what was the rising power in India at that time, to take back his throne. He promised the British the territories of Salsette (The place that currently houses Suburban Mumbai) and Vasai and some revenue of Surat, in lieu of an army and weapons. On one side, British didn't want to antagonize the powerful Marathas. But on the other hand, the territories and the moolah was too good. And they always liked a good dealing. So they signed the treaty of Surat with Raghunathrao in 1775 and the First Anglo Maratha war began in full earnest. And in the same 1775, on the opposite side of the globe, a group of plucky colonists residing what was called the United States of America, decided that they could no longer be slaves to Britain and wanted their sweet and shining independence. And they declared war on the British. At first the British held and were even winning some battles. But slowly the tide turned. In 1777, the US won a significant battle over the British in the Battle of Saratoga. Meanwhile in India, in 1779, they got absolutely hammered by the Marathas in the Battle of Wadgaon. Seeing the reverses suffered by their Arch nemesis British, France decided to get into the act on both sides of the world. In US, they supported the colonists. In India, they allied with the Marathas. British didn't like it. So they started attacking the French territories in India, They first attacked and captured Pondicherry in 1778. Then they attacked the port of Mahe in 1779. This brought in the third piece of the jigsaw puzzle. The Kingdom of Mysore under Haider Ali. You see Hyder Ali and Mysore was a great friend of the French and they had treaties promising that they will protect each other. And Hyder Ali viscerally hated the British. So when the British attacked the French, they invoked that treaty and the wrath of Hyder. This time Hyder Didn't mess around. He directly went for the jugular. He attacked the most prized possession of British in South India, Madras. And in 1780, Hyder's forces under his son Tipu Sultan, inflicted one of the worst defeats that the British ever suffered in the Battle of Polilur. He annihilated an entire British force and the Mysore forces seized Arcot. And if the British thought the worst was over. They were badly mistaken. Because then came the year of 1781. First in March 1781, Mahadji Shinde soundly defeated the British in the Battle of Sironj. Then in April 1781, the Marathas routed the British in the Battle of Bhor Ghat. Meanwhile in the South Hyder Ali had fought inconclusive battles in Porto Novo (Parangipettai), Sholinghur and Polilur. He even besieged Nagapattinam And on the other side of the globe in America, with French support, the British were surrounded in Yorktown by a combined French - American force and were forced a Surrender. A new nation was born By the end of 1781 and beginning of 1782, British were down for the count. They were ragged, worn out and were completely isolated. All Marathas and Hyder had to do was attack Bombay and Madras, kick the British out and call it a day. Their dreams of building a global empire where the sun would never set, was burning to the ground, right in front of their eyes. Then fate intervened. First Hyder Ali died in 1782. This gave them some respite in the South. Seizing this opportunity, they launched the most deadly weapon in British armoury. Their unparalleled ability of duplicitousness. Or what we call today, diplomacy. Realizing that they could not fight both the Marathas, British and the French at the same time, they decided to divide all of them. First they decided to placate the greater power in India at that time. The Marathas. They signed the Treaty of Salbai which restored the pre war borders and they agreed not to support Raghunathrao anymore. Placated, the Marathas accepted it. The British would fight the Marathas again only in 1803. Four years after the fall of Mysore. Then they understood that the only European power that could help Indian kings to uproot the British was the French. So they signed a treaty of Paris with them in 1783, agreeing to cease all fighting and returning Pondicherry and other captured possessions to the French. Provided the French didn't help and participate in wars in India and other places. And in 1784, they signed the Treaty of Mangalore with Tipu, where they agreed to return all territory and possessions to Mysore. With all of this, they got a respite of about 10 years, where they strengthened themselves, created alliances and ensured they would be the supreme overlords of India for the next 160 odd years. A lot of us keep asking that was it ever possible for the Indians to kick the British out militarily from India. A lot of us keep thinking that it wasn't because the British were too powerful in terms of Weaponry, tactics and technology. It is humbug. Because in 1782 , Had the Marathas, Mysore and the Nizam made some simple moves, co-operated with each other and worked as a team, British could've been dealt a mortal blow from which they would've had a hard time recovering from. Had Mysore and Nizam Attacked Madras and Marathas, Mumbai in 1782, British would've lost two of their three major centres in India, leaving them only Calcutta in the east. Their asses would have been so badly kicked, that they may have as well quit. Or it would have taken them at least a decade to recover. Had the Mysore and Marathas came together in 1782 and pressed the foot that they had on the British neck to the floor, they would have had enough time to ally with the French and get all the technology we need and be at par with the British. British would've been reduced to a bit part player in sub-continent politics. A lot of us have a lot of what-ifs in Indian history. Personally for me, the biggest what if, is this period between 1775 to 1784. This is THE decade, that could've changed Indian history P:S: In 1780, Haider actually wrote a letter to Nana Phadnavis, the Maratha statesman, proposing a grand alliance against the British. He was ready to settle all their past disputes for a united front against someone who he considered as his greatest threat and enemy. But past mistrust and suspicion ensured this letter remained only that. A letter. If this grand alliance had taken shape, our history would've been different. Very Very different.

Either this quizzer unkill has not seen Viduthalai 2 or he does not know what subtext is. There are literal scenes with expository dialogues that say that Naxalites tried till the last minute to defuse the bomb they planted, but the police wantonly didn't let them. Not just showed on visuals, but told, retold and explained through dialogues. Written as TEXT in the script, voiced out by a dubbing artist. If this is the standards and intellectual dishonesty of quizzing, then our civilization will benefit from men being better kissers than quizzers.
Deviprasad@deviprasadv

@labstamil Hope you are savvy enough to know the difference between subtext and text. Sympathizing with Naxal or Terrorist causes is propaganda but subtext. Openly claiming a cluster fuck disaster like Demonetisation is text which leaves nothing to interpretation. For the record D1 sucked.

@AgentSaffron 40-50 seems to be overestimation. ADMK will barely cross opposition party qualification mark, in my view. JV party will get enough seats to be recognised as a political party and 1 or 2 seats including JV. BJP should be lucky to get 2-3.

MKG roasted by Bengal version of Congress!!
ANI@ANI

#WATCH | Kolkata | TMC MP Mahua Moitra says, "Bengalis are a very proud race. We led the war for independence against the British. Who were the Gujaratis?... 68% of the names of the people who were killed and incarcerated in Kala Pani were Bengalis, followed by Punjabis. Can you name me one Gujarati who was there, apart from your big hero, Veer Savarkar, who only wanted to sit and write apology letters? Please let us know..."

Thankyou for your clean confession about what bigotry your religions teach. Once again, I am saying. A god who sent prophets only to the twelve tribes of Israel in the Levant, and one Quraysh tribe in Arabia, ignoring the rest of humanity for 3000 years since creation , yet punishing all of them with eternal hellfire, for not worshipping him exclusively , cannot be the God for everyone, who created the entire universe. A god who never incarnates on earth or would incarnate only one time at one place among one people, cannot demand worship from all of humanity. A god who commands and would accept prayers only in one language from all people, can’t be the god for everyone. A god who forgives all sorts of sins of people who worship him yet who sends away all others, who worship no god or other gods, into hellfire, even if they are otherwise pious, is not a god but a cult leader. A god who revealed his revelations only to a small minority of the world population and relies on the conquest of empires to spread his worship to all humans is a lazy god, who instead of revealing to every nation in their own language and culture and tastes, has outsourced his divine potency unto dirty humans and their brutal empires. If you still believe in this, it is okay. You can teach it and preach it inside your own churches and mosques. In public atleast, have the decency to not disparage the majority faith that are otherwise hospitable to you. I don’t like lot of people genuinely but I don’t disparage them or insult them in public and restrict it to my private circle. When it comes to caste or gender or race or language or ethnicity, disparaging and demonising that of another person in public is illegal. Then, why should the literal demonisation of the gods of other people in public not attract the same penalty? Like every other bigotry and supremacy an demonisation (w.r.t gender, caste, race, ….), confine your religious supremacy and demonisation of other religions in the private realm and your own places of worship and behave decently in public. It is not curbing freedom of religion but demanding basic public decency. How come demonising the gender, caste, or ethnicity of other people is considered distasteful in public, but how can the demonising the gods of other people suddenly become kosher or halāl just because it is a core tenet of your religion ? Btw this is the same law that holds in Singapore. Public preaching is not allowed; just invite people to your places of worship without denigrating other religions; once they accept the invitation and come to your places of worship, you can be as bigoted and demonising about any religion as you want there.

Thank you for proving my point. 1. As per the constitution, no Hindu can publicly proclaim that my caste is the most superior. He will be slapped with several cases and violations and will be considered a bigot. He can’t take recourse that his religious scriptures say so and that he is exhibiting freedom of religion and freedom to preach. But a Christian or Muslim can publicly proclaim that gods of other peoples are demons and false and what not, and say that his religious scripture proclaims it and he is just exercising his freedom of religion. A Hindu cannot constitutionally escape from his public casteist bigotry and supremacy by taking recourse to freedom of religion but a Christian and a Muslim can escape their religious supremacy and bigotry by taking recourse to freedom of religion. 2. Hindu gods are not known outside India because Hindus never had world conquering empires that forcibly converted or coercively converted many people in the world through aggressive proselytisation. If there was no Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Arab and Turkish Empires, and European colonisation, everybody would be worshiping their own local gods and the Abrahamic god also would be irrelevant outside the Middle East. Hindu gods who revealed themselves only in India and incarnated only in India, hence they don’t demand all non Indians to worship them exclusively. In Gita, Krishna says that people who worship other gods just worship only Him ultimately in another form and name. But certain gods revealed themselves only to a small group of people in the Middle East and still expect all people to worship only him and demonises other gods worshipped by other people for millennia.

@maa_bhaishiiH Oh man who is talking here about bigotry.. The proponent of the religion that divides society on the basis of ones birth and assign inferiority and superiority based on same. Has any one outside India heard of any one of the so called Hindu Gods. They are irrelevant outside India

@AmalJos95950131 Your alleged fallacy will cut both ways. If it's about belief, there are so many Hindus (definitely majority) who don't believe in varnadharma in a discriminatory way. If it's abt scriptures, buddhist texts state buddha will be born only in Brahmin/ kshatriya lineage.
