India's Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has put out a draft notification that could change how we think about fuel in this country. The proposal looks to formally bring E85 (85% ethanol blended with petrol) and E100 (near-pure ethanol) into the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. -- Along with that, biodiesel references are being upgraded from B10 to B100, petrol standards are being updated to reflect the E20 rollout already underway, and the gross vehicle weight limit in some categories is going up from 3,000 kg to 3,500 kg. Hydrogen fuel classification is also getting a tweak. Before anything becomes official, the government has opened a 30-day window for public comments. -- This is not a launch, just the regulatory groundwork being laid. It comes right after India hit its 20% ethanol blending target in petrol in 2025, which was a big deal and was largely powered by sugarcane and grain-based ethanol. Carmakers had already started selling E20-compatible engines as part of that push. -- If this draft gets finalised, it would mean automakers, fuel companies, and testing bodies all need to get on board with a much wider ethanol framework. It points to where India is headed with fuel, reducing dependence on imported oil and building out a homegrown, cleaner fuel economy for the long run. #EthanolFuel #E100India #E85Fuel #GreenMobility #EthanolBlending
